The Fifth 'MGM International Lion Dance Championship' Concludes on November 15

Foshan Nanhai Huangfeihong Zhonglian Cable Lion Dragon and Martial Art Association from China Wins Champion Title with High Score of 9.275
 

MACAU, Nov. 15, 2015 The "MGM Lion Dance Championship – Macau International Invitational 2015" came to a glorious conclusion after two days of fierce competition. Foshan Nanhai Huangfeihong Zhonglian Cable Lion Dragon and Martial Art Association from China took home the title of the fifth MGM International Lion Dance Champion, while the China Guangdong Zhaoqing Electricity Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe was awarded the Gold Trophy in the Female Lion Dance Performance Competition.

The Guests of Honor posed for a group photo with the winning troupes at the ceremony.

 

The 15 troupes competing in the male category of “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Macau International Invitational 2015” wowed the crowd with gravity-defying moves.

The final round of "Male Lion Dance Competition" as well as the highly anticipated "Female Lion Dance Performance Competition" were held today. A total of 23 competitive troupes wowed the crowd with gravity-defying moves while performing skillful and acrobatic pole-jumping routines. They mesmerized the crowd with an array of awe-inspiring and flexible moves in vigorous forms.

The Championship ceremoniously concluded as winners were announced. For the male category, Foshan Nanhai Huangfeihong Zhonglian Cable Lion Dragon and Martial Art Association bested the other 14 troupes by a score of 9.275. China Guangdong Zhaoqing Electricity Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe and Kun Seng Keng Lion and Dragon Dance Association Muar Malaysia finished as the First and Second Runners-up with a respective score of 9.245 and 9.175. In the Female Lion Dance Performance Competition, China Guangdong Zhaoqing Electricity Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe and Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Dragon & Lion Dance Association Hung Kuen Lee Yun Fook Lion Dance won the Gold Trophy.

Guests of Honor in attendance at the Closing Ceremony were Mr. Zhang Xiaoguang, Deputy Director-General of The Department of Culture and Education of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macau SAR; Mr. Jose Maria da Fonseca Tavares, President of Macau Sport Development Board; Ms. Doris Leong, Head of Tourism Product and Events Department of Macau Government Tourist Office; Mr. Pun Keng Man, Deputy Director of Wushu General Association of Macau; Mr. Chao Chi Man, Honorary Chairman of The Organizing Committee of MGM Lion Dance Championship Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited; Mr. William Scott, Executive Director and General Manager of Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality; Mr. Rahul Kaushik, Senior Vice President of M Life Experiences & Relationship Marketing of MGM China, and Ms. Sarah Rogers, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Responsibility. They presented awards to the winning teams and posed for group photos, marking the successful conclusion to the event.

Mr. Bowie expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all related parties for their support and contribution to make this event a huge success. He pledged a continuous enhancement for the artistic and cultural experience in MGM, which will contribute towards reinforcing Macau's position as a multicultural and international city of leisure.

The traditional Chinese Lion Dance has gained popularity across the globe in recent years, and has now grown into an internationally recognized sport. This year counts as the fifth International Lion Dance Championship organized by MGM, in hopes to help further promote this essence of Chinese cultural sport worldwide.
