MGM Culinary Team swept eight awards at HOFEX Hong Kong International Culinary Classics 2019.

MGM Culinary Team swept eight awards: three Gold, two Silver and two Bronze in the prestigious Hong Kong International Culinary Classic (HKICC) at HOFEX 2019 this May. Amongst strong competition from Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Taiwan, Sous Chef Mr. Kwan Wing Fat from Imperial Court of MGM MACAU obtained a Golden Bauhinia Cup, which is the most prestigious award in Chinese Cuisine category. Meanwhile, Ms. Ip Wai Teng from Pastry & Bakery at MGM COTAI won a Gold with Distinction award by scoring full marks, being the only Gold with Distinction winner in this internationally-acclaimed competition.

Mr. Geoffrey Simmons, Director of Culinary of MGM, applauds on the team’s achievements, “I am incredibly proud of the team who spent almost 800 hours preparing well for the competition, and the success is the culmination of the past three months of continuous hard work and dedication of both participants and their trainers. Their outstanding results demonstrated our team’s ability to combine culinary flair and professionalism for a total dining experience, and are a testament to MGM’s on-going commitment to nurturing talent diversity for Macau. We will continue to bring our expertise of culinary innovation and experiences to Macau, making the city a truly memorable dining destination for guests.”

Ms. Ip Wai Teng also thanked MGM for the support she has been receiving throughout the competition, “Having a stable job doesn’t mean we need to stop learning and growing, I am truly proud to be the only one who can score full marks in this prestigious competition. I would like to thank for my team’s support, dedication and effort over the past few months of preparation and intensive training.”

Endorsed by World Chefs – World Association of Chefs Societies and co-organised by the Hong Kong Chefs Associations (HKCA), HKICC 2019 aims at promoting culinary excellence, skills and abilities of chefs, cooks, pastry chefs and apprentices from near and far.
