[June 16, 2016, Macau] MGM MACAU is proud to retain the Gold Status in the Macao Green Hotel Award as announced at the Award Ceremony held today at the Macau World Trade Center. Presented to MGM in 2015, the Gold Status holds the highest rank in the Macao Green Hotel Award, which is organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA), together with the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
MGM has made annual reductions of 28% in energy use, 13% reduction in water use, and 7% reduction in waste sent to the incinerator across the property since its baseline years. In addition, the Company has endeavored to procure environmentally preferable products, such as energy-efficient equipment, sustainable seafood, and paper from well-managed forests, accounting for over MOP 30million of procurement spend in 2015. Engaging employees and the community also remains a top priority at MGM with ongoing internal activities led by the MGM Green Team with the objective to raise awareness on environmental sustainability. Moreover, MGM has adopted green building techniques for the design and construction of MGM COTAI to ensure that it is as much an environmentally sustainable property as it is a luxurious integrated resort.
“As Macau continues to grow and expand, it is crucial that this growth is sustainable, and strikes a balance among the needs of the economy, community and the environment. MGM as an integrated resort operator is dedicated to putting our resources into a dedicated sustainability program that integrates social and environmental considerations into our day-to-day operation and decision-making. We are confident that the efforts we make today will influence the rest of the community, hence creating a better tomorrow today together,” said Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited.
The Macao Green Hotel Award aims to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection in Macau's hotel industry and commend those hotels which have adopted leading environmental practice.
