Senior Executives Cheer 56 Team Members to Roar to New Heights

[May 11, 2017, Macau] MGM hosted a Blessing Ceremony for its Dragon Boat Team at Nam Van Lake Nautical Center on May 11. A total of 56 Golden Lion Team members from both gaming and non-gaming departments, will take part in the “2017 Macao International Dragon Boat Races” on May 27, 28 and 30, to compete in four categories. The Dragon Boat Team is comprised of more than 96% local employees, the highest local participation ever as a result of their increasingly active interest.

The Ceremony was officiated by a team of MGM’s senior executives in which they extended their best wishes to the Team.  It kicked off with the traditional rituals of incense offering and suckling pig cutting, followed by the eye-dotting ritual for the dragon boats. The MGM Dragon Boat Cheerleading Squad, formed by team members across gaming and non-gaming departments, gave an energetic performance to stir up the atmosphere and cheer the Team to victory. To show their full support to the Team, MGM’s senior executives got onto the dragon boats and rowed together as the ceremony drew to a successful closing with the confetti cannons blasting overhead, bestowing good luck on the Team before they plunged into their intensive training.

Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “The Macao International Dragon Boat Races are great opportunities for us to lift the morale of our employees and encourage team spirit at the workplace. This year marks the 10th anniversary of MGM MACAU, and MGM COTAI will open in 2018 of this year.  A strong team spirit is crucial for us to achieve these key milestones. With the belief that our employees’ well-being is equally important to their career development, we will continue to encourage work-life balance among our team members with these meaningful initiatives, and guide them in building successful career paths. I would like to express my sincere gratitude towards our Dragon Boat Team members for their relentless efforts and remarkable contribution to the races.”

Mr. Ng Kin Teng from Casino Operations department, one of the Dragon Boat Team members, said, “I am proud to represent the Company to participate in these international races and get close to the local community. The endurance required by the intensive training has made me much more aware about my health, diet and continuous exercise routines. My team members are the embodiment of perseverance and healthy competitive spirit. I am very excited for the upcoming event, and now I am more confident than ever to give my utmost best to win the races.”

MGM has always actively participated in various local sport events. Over the past 12 months, the Dragon Boat Team members have dedicated their spare time to intensive training, setting the right tone from the get-go and striving to roar to new heights at the races. In 2016, the Team won the Champion Title in Macau Standard Dragon Boat Race – Women (500M), and First Runner-up in the Macau Small Dragon Boat Race (200M) and Second Runner-Up in the Macau International Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race – (500M).
