[June 6, 2018, Macau] MGM will host the annual summer program, “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Junior Lion Dance Training Program 2018”, from July 1 to August 17. For the fourth year in a row, this training activity is designed for children aged 5 to 8 to learn the fundamentals of traditional Chinese lion dance and is now available for enrollment.
In collaboration with Hong Wai Dragon & Lion Dance Association Macau and with the continuous support of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and Macao Government Tourism Office, the “Junior Lion Dance Training Program 2018” is another signature program of MGM in its effort to passing on the culture and tradition of this Chinese sports to a wider and local community, in particular the younger generation. It offers a great opportunity for local children to develop knowledge about the history of this traditional cultural sports, the use of different props and instruments, fundamental skills and techniques, strokes and grip, cultivating in them a sense of initiative, self-discipline and a high degree of team spirit.
The training takes place twice-a-week, where classes will be divided into different progressive phases over a seven-week period. It will be instructed by Mr. Mak Chi Leong, the Chief Coach of the Hong Wai Dragon & Lion Dance Association Macau. Mr. Mak, a true master in this field, has organized numerous award-winning dragon and lion dance troupes to take part in local and international competitions.
Launched in 2015, the “Junior Lion Dance Training Program” has been harnessing an overwhelming success and positive feedback from the public for the past years. More than 200 students participated in this training program and nearly 50 of them joined the Junior Lion Dance continuous training. They have over 20 performances experience at public events, including “MGM COTAI’s Grand Opening”, “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Macau International Invitational”, “Parade for the Celebration of Chinese New Year in Macau”, “Walk for A Million” and “Wushu Masters Challenge”, impressing spectators and receiving high praise.
