[January 3, 2019, Macau] MGM Golden Lion Team members were recognized with a total of five Gold Pin Awards, making MGM one of the biggest winners of this year’s “Macao Occupational Skills Recognition System” (MORS) Gold Pin Competition held today. The Competition, which is Macau’s most prestigious hospitality competition, provides a platform to contestants to demonstrate their professional skills and pit their talents against the best in the industry.
MGM values training and development for its team members, and is committed to optimize their professional skills. In this year’s competition, there were a total of 368 contestants representing 39 organizations in Macau, in which 67 contestants were shortlisted for the finals. MGM team members participated in ten categories, including Chinese Cook – Cantonese Cuisine (Intermediate Level), Assistant Cook (Western Kitchen), Bartender, Room Attendant, Waiter/Waitress (Chinese Restaurant Service), and 14 finalists successfully entered the Final Rounds.
The five MORS Gold Pin winners represent various disciplines, including: Duan Ningning, Chef de Partie; Xiao Xinyi, Concierge; Yang Jinyu, Food & Beverage Supervisor; Zhu Tianhui, Food & Beverage Captain; and Nie Peng, Food & Beverage Captain. Golden Lion Team members and senior management were in attendance to show their appreciation during the award presentation.
This year, Xiao Xinyi, Concierge of MGM, stood out from the many elites and took home the Concierge and Bell Attendant Award. She expressed her joy, “I have been doing loads of preparation with other participating colleagues prior to the competition, which felt like being back to the college days where I was always fighting for my own success. I am delighted to receive this award, as I see it as a recognition to my efforts. I will retain this attitude to in my daily work, and introduce the many events in town to my guests.”
MORS was launched in 2001 as a joint effort of the Tourism Industry of Macao and IFT, with the main objective to upgrade human resources in the industry through the introduction of a certification scheme for a number of hospitality and tourism professions.
