MGM Holds Blessing Ceremony for Its Dragon Boat Team
Golden Lion Team Members Ready to Roar to New Heights
To show their full support to the Team, MGM’s senior executives performed traditional rituals, bestowing good luck on the Team.

MGM held a blessing ceremony for its Dragon Boat Team at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Center today. The ceremony, led by a team of senior executives, extended best wishes to 60 MGM team members who will take part in the “Macao International Dragon Boat Races 2019” in early June. Consisting of 90 percent of local employees, the Dragon Boat Team will split up into two sub-teams and compete across four categories.

At the ceremony, senior executives performed traditional rituals, such as offering incense, carving a suckling pig and eye-dotting the dragon boats – a gesture made to symbolically awaken the spirit of the boats. The MGM Dragon Boat Cheerleading Squad also gave an energetic performance to cheer the Team to victory. To show their full support to the Team, MGM’s senior executives got onto the dragon boats and rowed together as the ceremony drew to a successful closing with the confetti cannons, bestowing good luck on the Team.

Mr. Grant R. Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “As one of China’s most treasured cultural relics, dragon boat racing embodies the spirit of unity, cooperation and determination. Over the past many years, our dragon boat team won many titles and achieved an outstanding record in racing events. Last year, our women’s team placed in the top three of the Macau International Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race, being the best amongst the Macau local teams; while our men’s team was the only team to represent Macau at the 2018 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races. The team has dedicated their spare time to intensive trainings for already ten months, and I look forward to reaching new heights at the races this year.”
