MGM International Lion Dance Championship 2019 Returns to MGM COTAI on November 23 and 24
28 Troupes from 12 Countries and Regions Battling for the Thrones
“MGM Lion Dance Championship – Macau International Invitational 2019” will take place at MGM COTAI on November 23 and 24.

MGM and Wushu General Association of Macau are once again co-hosting their signature event “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Macau International Invitational 2019” on November 23 and 24, with the support of Macao Government Tourism Office, Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Sports Bureau and Dragon & Lion Dances Federation of Asia. 28 world-class troupes from 12 countries and regions will battle in the MGM Theater at MGM COTAI, offering a thrilling two-day performance of the Chinese cultural sports for all Macau locals and tourists.

 

Striving to pass on the Chinese traditional cultures, MGM always engages local community, especially the younger generation to learn more about this traditional Chinese sport. First launched in 2010, “MGM International Lion Dance Championship” has come to its eighth, continuously cultivating this significant piece of Chinese traditional culture into an internationally recognized sport, hence connecting Chinese communities from all over the world. Highlighting MGM’s vision, the opening ceremony this year will feature a provocative drum performance by renowned masters and young lion dancers to kick off the event, which truly illustrates the inheritance of this Chinese traditional sport.  

 

The two-day action-packed Championship will have lion dance troupes from 12 countries and regions to compete for the thrones. Kick-starting the event with the “Female Traditional Lion Dance Championship” in the morning on the first day (November 23), where nine female lion dance troupes, including “Chinese Youth League Lion and Dragon Dance Australia”, the champion of last year, will compete for championship title with their awe-inspiring and flexible moves. The following afternoon will be occupied with the new crowd’s favorite “Junior Lion Dance Performance Competition”, launched last year, in which seven junior troupes will be striving for the win. The highly anticipated “Traditional Lion Dance Championship” will take place on the second day, featuring 11 troupes on stage to present the most stimulating competition. This is also the first year where female lion dancers join the line to wow the audiences with astonishing movements, battling fiercely for the throne of this year’s champion.

 

“MGM International Lion Dance Championship”, now one of the city’s favorite sports events, gathers worldwide elites of the sport to showcase their exquisite performance. All locals and tourists are welcome to be amazed by troupes from 12 countries and regions around the globe, including Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States and Macau SAR.
