MGM Organizes “Together, We Fight the Pandemic and Storms” to Support Single Elderly Households
Thorough Preparation to Ward Off Disease and Typhoons
Over 60 MGM volunteers visited some 50 single elderly households at Edifício Lok Kuan in Seac Pai Van, spreading warmth by assisting them to clean their homes.

Having a firm belief in the old Chinese saying of “taking care of the elderly as if they were our own parents”, MGM exerts itself to organize a range of community care programs for senior citizens. With the support of the Family and Integrated Community Service Centre of Seac Pai Van of the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM), MGM recently held the “Together, We Fight the Pandemic and Storms” activity to assist senior citizens who are living alone to keep fighting the pandemic and get prepared for the typhoon season. The one-day caring activity comprised several heartwarming gestures, including home cleaning, distribution of daily necessities, complimentary haircut service, as well as provision of door and window inspections for improving home safety.

Strictly adhering to anti-pandemic guidelines, over 60 MGM volunteers visited some 50 single elderly households at Edifício Lok Kuan in Seac Pai Van, assisting them to clean their homes to prevent the spread of virus. MGM also presented each household with cooking oil, other food items and anti-pandemic supplies to reduce their living expenses and support their ongoing fight against the pandemic. Considering that the typhoon season has just begun, MGM took this occasion to distribute comprehensive typhoon emergency kits to the elderly to increase their responsiveness to adverse conditions. In addition, 15 specialists of MGM’s Facilities Management Team were assigned to inspect the doors, windows and electrical installations of their units to help enhance home safety. Noting that some of the elderly may not be able to go to the hairdresser, MGM Volunteer Hairdressing Team came in to provide haircut service and give them refreshing summer makeovers.

Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM, said, “Maintaining personal and home hygiene is the key to combat the pandemic. Nevertheless, senior citizens may not be able to clean every corner of their home due to physical and other limitations, and single elderly households are even in desperate need of help. MGM organized this activity to provide them with clean living environment and sufficient anti-pandemic supplies. We are also eager to prepare them for the typhoon season. All in all, we are working to lessen both the material and psychological threats against the elderly posed by the pandemic and typhoons.”

Ng Siu Lai, President of UGAMM, said, “MGM caters to the diverse needs of single elderly households through this caring activity. Now they can stay home and fight the pandemic with no worries, and they won’t be chaotic when the typhoon comes. All these thoughtful arrangements have warmed their hearts and inspires others to respect and care for the elderly.”

Staying connected with the community, MGM continues to launch various kinds of community service and activities. Over the years, the Company has built lasting friendship with the elderly through holding community care activities on a regular basis, including “Spring Clean for Love”, “Health Day for Senior Buddies”, “Haircut for Love”, and monthly visits to elderly centers.
