MGM joined hands with Macao Youth Federation to host another “MGM Talent Development Series” sharing session. The focus of the session was on "Macau Youth Empowerment and Contribution to Fight COVID-19”, attended by close to 300 team members. Guest speakers include Lo Iek Long, Vice President of the 13th Committee of All-China Youth Federation and Clinical Director of the Public Conde S. Januário Hospital Center, and O Leong, Member of the 13th Committee of the All-China Youth Federation and Senior Technician of Health Bureau. They were invited to share their frontline experiences in combating the pandemic in Macau, while encouraging young people to stay strong and positive amid challenging times.
The sharing session took place at MGM COTAI on September 25. It was attended by guests of honors, including Leong Man Ion, Deputy Director of Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau; Zhou Quan, Assistant Director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM; and Han Tian, Senior Vice President of Gaming Operations and Strategic Marketing of MGM.
Lo Iek Long said, “Macau’s success is the result of our government’s assertiveness that led to prompt responses and measures to contain the virus, so that our medical team could take good care of every patient. Among all, I especially appreciate our young medical professionals who were willing to take high-risk frontline positions, which truly demonstrated their commitment to our society. The partial victory of this battle is achieved by the unity of our government, professional institutions, community associations and all citizens, which prevails the society’s value of ‘love for the motherland and love for Macau’ that needs the younger generation to pass on.” Meanwhile, Lo also shared his thoughts on being part of the government’s regular COVID-19 press conferences, “This opportunity pushes me out of my comfort zone and inspires me to never stop learning. I have enhanced my communication skills through learning from experience and putting theory into practice.”
This May, the China International Emergency Medical Team (Macau) was invited by the Central Government to join the national medical team to help Algeria fight the pandemic. O Leong, also the Deputy Team Leader of the team, shared his experience, “The past few years of working under the Division of Emergency Preparedness of World Health Organization at various underdeveloped countries, has made me realized how precious it is to have a mature health care system. Therefore, I hope to contribute more in the development of Macau’s health care system. Undoubtedly, my international experience continues to remind me of my career and social responsibilities, which gives me strength to face the challenges ahead.”
One of the participants, May Leong Xavier, Director of Table Games, said, “It has been a valuable opportunity to learn about the stories of our medical personnel in combating the pandemic. While other parts of the world are still struggling, we are grateful for a safe and peaceful Macau, thanks to the efforts of our medical professionals and the advantage of the governing system granted by the nation. Both speakers also play crucial roles in various associations outside of their professions, which are role models to inspire us to grasp every opportunity to better ourselves.”
