MGM recently held the annual “Haircut and Health Day for Senior Buddies” at MGM COTAI’s Ballroom, providing complimentary health consultation and haircut service to more than 300 senior citizens. In addition to fulfilling its pledge to enhance physical and mental well-being of seniors, MGM specially put on a music and dance performance by MGM volunteers and students of Caritas de Macau School to live out the message of social inclusion. The philanthropic event has served a total of over 2,100 senior citizens in the past 11 years.
This year, participants of the “Haircut and Health Day for Senior Buddies” came from six elderly care centers, including four under Caritas Macau – Centro de Dia da Ilha Verde, Longevity Special Day Care Center, “Praia do Manduco” Centre for the Elderly, and Lar para Idosos Yee On, as well as Elderly Activity Center of Tung Sin Tong and Lok In Elderly Service Centre of The Women’s General Association of Macau. The event was attended by Lam Un Mui, President of The Women’s General Association of Macau; Pun Chi Meng, Secretary General of Caritas Macau; Lei Kit Heng, Director of Macau Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society; Kenneth Feng, President, Chief Strategic & Financial Officer of MGM; and Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM.
As in years past, MGM invited medical practitioners from Chinese Medicine Association of Macau to introduce the basic techniques of Chinese massage for the senior citizens. They also gave away three different kinds of nutrient soup according to the physical condition of each individual. At the same time, the seniors were encouraged to proactively strengthen their body, with trainers from Macao Association of Sports Stretching teaching them simple stretching exercises. MGM Golden Lion Hairdressing Team members on the other hand provided complimentary haircuts to about 100 senior citizens, giving them a refreshing makeover before summer begins. Established in 2015, the MGM Golden Lion Hairdressing Team has served over 3,200 senior citizens to date.
Kenneth Feng, President, Chief Strategic & Financial Officer of MGM, said, “Aside from the provision of innovative social services to the community, such as our sponsorship to the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau in setting up the Macau Assistive Technology Resources Center, MGM also continues to innovate in our regular volunteering services for the senior citizens with the aim of bringing them more joy and care. With that in mind, this year we have especially invited trainers to teach the seniors how to do exercises at home, as well as presenting a music and dance performance by students of Caritas de Macau School and our volunteers, making our event even more comprehensive and meaningful.”
