With the aim of encouraging local youth to make the best out of their summer holiday and to broaden their horizons as well as to plan their own future, MGM once again organized its annual summer program, “The MGM Experience” for the 10th year. The Program offered teenagers hands-on work experience at an integrated resort and volunteering work at various community associations, which enabled them to discover their future career paths while getting to care more about their own community.
Taking place in July, “The MGM Experience” program was participated by a total of 100 local teenagers, who were referred by Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM), The Women’s General Association of Macau, as well as children and siblings of MGM team members. The teenagers visited back-of-house areas of MGM properties, and then experienced the day-to-day operations at various departments, including Pastry Kitchen, Room Service, Spa and Gym, Concierge, Hotel Front Office and Linen Room, under the supervision of veteran MGM team members. The working day enabled them to gain practical experience while strengthening their communication skills at the same time.
The program also led the teenagers to volunteer in the community and experience MGM’s caring culture in person. Some of them visited the elderly at the elderly centers under Caritas Macau, UGAMM and The Women’s General Association of Macau; some took the time to learn how to clean wheelchairs and get to know more about assistive tools at the Macau Assistive Technology Resources Center; while others joined members of Macau Special Olympics (MSO)—Ngai Chun Center to make cookies. Before each of the participants took home a certificate and souvenir to conclude this meaningful activity, they shared their experiences and thoughts at a sharing session with their family members, representatives from schools and organizations, as well as team supervisors from MGM.
Iat Long Lo, son of a MGM team member who took part at this year’s event, said, “it has been a good and fruitful experience to work and learn about the daily operations of the Hotel Reception. I have learnt how to provide quality services to guests and make them feel like home when checking in the hotel. I experienced the working life of the department under the lead of our supervisor, and serving and communicating with hotel guests has indeed expanded my horizons. On top of that, our visit to the Lok Chun Centre of UGAMM was also an immensely rewarding experience, as it was truly a great occasion to spread care and joy to our community.”
