MGM endeavors to promote traditional Chinese culture and passing on Lingnan heritage to the community, particularly the new generation. Over the years, the Company strives to enlighten local youth with lion dance, a traditional sport that plays a significant role in Lingnan culture. This July, MGM brings back its signature children summer program, “MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class”, which is open for enrolment from now till May 29. This popular seven-week training program is a great introductory learning opportunity for children to explore Chinese culture and strengthen their cultural confidence. It also helps training children to be good team players with self-discipline, as well as getting physically fit through a series of fun-packed training activities.
“MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class” is co-organized by MGM and Mak Chi Leong Dragon & Lion Dance Association Macau, and honorably supported by Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), Cultural Affairs Bureau (ICM) and Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO). Coming to its eighth edition, the training program has trained over 460 young lion dance masters since 2015. During the seven-week program, trainees will learn about the history of lion dance, basic movements, the use of different props and music instruments that go with the dance. Trainees who complete the program will perform and showcase their dance moves at the program’s graduation ceremony taking place in the MGM Theater. The ones with outstanding performances may proceed to the “MGM Lion Dance Training Program”, where they can continue advancing their techniques in this traditional sport.
“The 8th MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class” welcomes children between age 5 and 8 to join. Interested individuals may fill up the application form on MGM’s official website, then revert by email to liondance@mgm.mo along with a valid copy of ID and body check report issued from a registered doctor before 11:59pm on May 29. 80 applicants will be selected via computer balloting.
