The 9th MGM Lion Dance Championship Comes to Successful Conclusion
Over 3.8 million in Online and Offline Attendance
The 9th “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Southern Lion Dance Invitational 2022” concluded with success today, with over 3.8 million in online and offline attendance for two days.

The 9th “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Southern Lion Dance Invitational 2022” concluded with success today. After two days of battles, Guangdong Provincial Dragon & Lion Dance Association and MGM Golden Lion Troupe - Team A clinched the champion titles at the “Freestyle Lion Dance Championship – Taolu Movements on Poles” and the “Female Traditional Lion Dance Championship” respectively. MGM Golden Lion Troupe - Team B took home the gold trophies at this year’s “Junior Lion Dance Performance Competition”, while both Lion Dance Troupe of Qiaotou Community, Fuhai Street, Bao'an District, Shenzhen and MGM Golden Lion Troupe - Team B won the Gold prizes at the “Youth Traditional Lion Dance Championship”. This year, MGM partnered with Macau Lotus TV for the first time to live stream the competition on 19 mainland social media platforms, enabling spectators to experience this annual sports and cultural event online, registering a total of over 3.8 million in online and offline attendance for two days.

 

The Award Presentation Ceremony was held at MGM Theater today. It was attended by a line-up of guests, including Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Chan Weng Kit, President of Wushu General Association of Macau and Chairman of Dragon & Lion Dance Federation of Asia; Fu Si Na, representative of the Sports Bureau and Director of Athlete Training and Development Centre; Cheang Kai Meng, Head of the Department of Performing Arts Development of the Cultural Affairs Bureau; Huang Qintian, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Dragon & Lion Dance Sports Association; Kenneth Feng, President, Chief Strategic & Financial Officer of MGM; Chao Chi Man, Honorary Chairman of the Organizing Committee of MGM Lion Dance Championship; Tian Han, Senior Vice President of Gaming Operations & Strategic Marketing of MGM; Peter Chen, Senior Vice President of VIP Marketing of MGM; and Catarina Lio, Vice President of Brand Marketing of MGM. The guests presented medals to the winning teams, marking a successful conclusion to the 9th MGM Lion Dance Championship.

 

The much-anticipated “Freestyle Lion Dance Championship – Taolu Movements on Poles” took place earlier today – during which 9 top troupes hailing from mainland China vied against each other vigorously for the champion. Their awe-inspiring acrobatic movements earned cheers and applause from audiences. Guangdong Provincial Dragon & Lion Dance Association won Champion with a score of 9.25, while Shanghai Dragon & Lion Dance Association and Shenzhen Xinan Shangchuan Huanglian Shengxing Lion Martial Arts Troupe won the second and third prizes, respectively.

 

MGM Golden Lion Troupe A and B were established in 2018. They participated and achieved remarkable results in the “Junior Lion Dance Performance Competition” and “Female Traditional Lion Dance Championship” from 2018 to 2019. This year, MGM Golden Lion Troupes competed in the “Youth Traditional Lion Dance Championship” for the first time, and reaped 2 Gold prizes, 1 Champion and 1 Silver across 3 categories.

 

In the “Female Traditional Lion Dance Championship” held yesterday, MGM Golden Lion Troupe - Team A became the Champion with a score of 8.78, while Guangdong Provincial Dragon & Lion Dance Association and Shanghai Dragon & Lion Dance Association won 1st and 2nd runner-up. During the “Junior Lion Dance Performance Competition”, MGM Golden Lion Troupe - Team B scored 8.42 and won Gold prize. MGM Golden Lion Troupe - Team A garnered Silver at a score of 8.38. In the maiden “Youth Traditional Lion Dance Championship”, Lion Dance Troupe of Qiaotou Community, Fuhai Street, Bao' an District, Shenzhen and MGM Golden Lion Troupe - Team B both clinched Gold prizes, scoring 8.91 and 8.85 respectively.

 

The 9th “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Southern Lion Dance Invitational 2022” is co-organized by MGM and Wushu General Association of Macau, with the Dragon & Lion Dances Federation of Asia as advisory unit, and the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Sports Bureau, Macao Government Tourism Office, Education and Youth Development Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau, and Chinese Dragon & Lion Dance Sports Association as supporting units.
