The 9th “MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class 2023” Enrollment Commences
Annual Summer Program Dedicated to Lingnan Culture Proudly Returns this July
The 9th “MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class 2023” will return this July, as a valuable opportunity for children to bolster cultural confidence by dabbling in the movements of lion dance.

MGM strives to promote Lingnan culture. With a dedication to passing down Lingnan quintessential lion dance, MGM once again presents its signature annual children summer program, the 9th “MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class 2023” this July. The sought-after seven-week training program opens for enrollment from May 25 to June 4, inviting children in Macau to deepen their cultural confidence as well as enhance their physical fitness and self-discipline – by dabbling into the long-standing Chinese cultural sport.

“MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class” is co-organized by MGM and Mak Chi Leong Dragon & Lion Dance Association Macau, and supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau and Macao Government Tourism Office. Since its establishment in 2015, the program has trained over 460 young lion dance masters. During the seven-week program, trainees will learn about the history of the lion dance, basic movements, the use of different props and musical instruments that go with the dance. Young trainees who complete the program will perform and showcase their dance moves at the graduation ceremony. The ones with outstanding performances may be enlisted in the “MGM Lion Dance Training Program”, where they can continue advancing their lion dance techniques.

The 9th “MGM Junior Lion Dance Summer Class 2023” welcomes children between the age of 5 and 8 to join. Interested individuals may fill up the application form on MGM’s official website on or before June 4, and submit along with a valid copy of ID and body check report issued from a registered doctor. A total of 80 applicants will be selected via computer balloting. Successful applicants will receive confirmation email on June 7. The lion dance training will officially commence on July 10.
