Amidst the sound of firecrackers, today, on the third day of the Chinese New Year, MGM welcomes the Year of Dragon with its annual Lion Dance Blessing Ceremonies at both MGM properties, embracing the traditional Lingnan culture to bring good fortune to locals and tourists. Additionally, MGM has prepared a series of cultural and festive events to usher in the prosperous Year of the Dragon.
The lion dance ceremony was led by Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, along with a lineup of the company's management team to perform the lion-awakening ritual. Accompanied by the enchanting Chinese instrumental music of gongs, drums, and firecrackers, the lion dance troupe leaped and danced, spreading New Year blessings throughout the hotels for the guests.
Extending Festive Spirit to Barra with Spring Fest
MGM joins hands with local parties to showcase the charm of cultural tourism at historical district, Barra. Throughout February, Navy Yard is filled with subtle floral fragrance from floral workshops and flower stalls every weekend and the Chinese New Year holiday; In addition, local musicians will grace the stage of the Bamboo Lion Head installation located in the open space, along with the pop-up concept of ‘Day Café & Night Bar’, allowing guests to experience the different charms of Barra under daylight and twilight; At the same time, MGM brings in local brands to offer local specialties such as Almond Cookies, Portuguese Sardine, Dragon Beard Candy, together with the entertaining claw machine, instant photo booth and the occasional visits of the God of Fortune; The exhibition Reminiscences of Barra: A Visual Journey is going to showcase a series of documents, visual arts, and photography works related to Barra’s history and developments.
With a fresh perspective, guests may consider taking either the newly unveiled Barra Station of the Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT) or the MGM Macau Cruise ferry transit which bridge the two historical towns of Barra and Coloane.
“Tales of Auspicious Dragon” Guided Art Tour at MGM COTAI
To welcome the Year of the Dragon, MGM COTAI presents a Chinese New Year Special “Tales of Auspicious Dragon” guided art tour, showcasing Chinese dragon culture and heritage. From now until February 18, available at 3:30 pm daily, the art docents will take guests on a journey to discover the auspicious symbolism of the dragon culture hidden in the Imperial Carpets, and to explore the creative realm of digital art including the award-winning Watercolor Story series.
At the same time, guests can share the ‘Art of Living’ philosophy with loved ones with the special gift options of the Multi-Function Polishing Cloth inspired by the Imperial Carpet, or the esteemed Lunar New Year stamps from the Palace Museum.
A Continuous Lineup of Festive Events
Apart from participating at the citywide Chinese New Year Parade this year, MGM offers a continuous lineup of festive events in the properties as well. From now until February 18, MGM will invite the God of Fortune to greet guests with blessed gifts at 2 pm, 4 pm, and 6 pm daily at the Grande Praça of MGM MACAU and the Spectacle of MGM COTAI to heighten the festive atmosphere.
MGM MACAU's Grande Praça showcases vibrant Chinese New Year decorations. The Spectacle of MGM COTAI features sculptures of the Mr. and Mrs. Lion and a prosperity arch, accompanied by New Year flowers symbolizing prosperity, making it a perfect spot for capturing festive moments.
