The “Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR: MGM Artistic Swimming Elite Extravaganza & Macao Open Artistic Swimming Competition 2024” concluded with success.

The “Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR: MGM Artistic Swimming Elite Extravaganza & Macao Open Artistic Swimming Competition 2024” — presented by MGM, organized by the Associação Geral de Natação de Macau, together with the support of the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government — was successfully held from June 21 to 23 at the Aquatic Centre of the Olympic Sports Centre. The event featured stellar performances from the Nation’s renowned artistic swimming teams, including the Beijing Artistic Swimming Team, the Jiangsu Artistic Swimming Team, and the Sichuan Artistic Swimming Team, bringing a “water ballet” splash to Macau. Nearly 3,000 tickets were distributed for free to the public, demonstrating the spectators' enthusiasm for artistic swimming.

Lai Pak Leng, President of the Associação Geral de Natação de Macau, said, “Under the tremendous support by the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government and MGM, the ‘Artistic Swimming Elite Extravaganza’ has been added to the ‘Macao Open Artistic Swimming Competition’ since last year, making the event more attractive, influential, and widely recognized by tourists and local residents. This year’s open competition brought together 17 teams with nearly 200 young athletes from Beijing, Tianjin, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, as well as Hong Kong and Macau, highlighting the increasing popularity and growing appeal of artistic swimming.”

Pansy Ho, Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “In the joyous celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Macao SAR and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, MGM is delighted to join hands again with the Associação Geral de Natação de Macau and the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government, organizing this mega sports event to extend dual visual amusement of sports and arts to the spectators. To reinforce Macau as the hub for artistic swimming in the Greater Bay Area, MGM also hosted the ‘Artistic Swimming Master Class’ for the first time, not only to enrich the ‘tourism+sports’ offerings, but also to boost the exchange between young competing athletes and outstanding artistic swimming professionals.”

An “Artistic Swimming Master Class” was held on the last day of the event, and approximately 60 young competing athletes from various cities were selected to join. The young competing athletes were divided into three groups in which they exchanged with the top athletes on performance skills, training methods, and other related topics while receiving technique demonstrations and guidance. The master class served as a platform to strengthen young athletes’ technical proficiency with the aim to drive them to bigger competing stages, meanwhile fostering new friendships with like-minded individuals and showcasing Macau’s vitality and enthusiasm as the “city of sports”.

Beyond their enchanting performances, the three top artistic swimming teams also enjoyed Macau’s charm by strolling in the historical Barra district. To explore the synergy of modern and old times, they visited the “Into the World of Wuxia Legends” Jin Yong Wuxia Drama Costumes and Weapons Exhibition, and savored snacks offered by local SMEs, immersing into the city’s unique glamour of art and culture.
