MGM Becomes the First Integrated Resort Operator in Macau to Commit to WELL at Scale
Advancing Green Development Goals
MGM representative exchanged ideas with experts in healthy buildings and sustainability in the “WELL 2024 Summit Hong Kong” hosted by the International WELL Building Institute.

MGM COTAI is the only mega complex and hotel in Macau to earn three-star certification in both Green Building Design and Operation Labels from the China Green Building and Energy Saving (Macau) Association. MGM not only emphasizes on environmental sustainability but also aims to enhance the health and well-being of its building occupants. By making health and wellness a priority, the two integrated resorts of MGM — MGM MACAU and MGM COTAI — will commit to WELL at Scale and pursue multiple certifications under the WELL system, making MGM the first integrated resort operator in Macau to embrace such kind of international standard.

Keith Lei, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Sustainability at MGM, said: “The people-centric WELL ecosystem aligns perfectly with MGM’s sustainability goals. Through implementing this international standard, MGM aims to create an ideal environment for guests and team members, thus further promoting their health and well-being, while also setting a new benchmark for the green and healthy buildings in the Greater Bay Area.”

The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) has integrated scientific and medical research as well as literature on behavioral factors to develop the WELL system. WELL outlines key building-level interventions and organizational strategies in 10 categories: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind, and Community. The WELL Building Standard is the centerpiece of this ecosystem, which is used by over 150 Fortune and Global 500 companies to ensure that buildings promote health and well-being.

Recently, IWBI hosted the “WELL 2024 Summit” in Hong Kong, where MGM representatives shared ideas with experts on healthy buildings and sustainability. To ensure effective implementation of the certification project, MGM also arranged team members from the Sustainability and Facility Management departments to undergo WELL AP training and gain their international qualifications. In addition, MGM conducted a self-assessment against the WELL Health-Safety Rating and the WELL Equity Rating to ensure readiness for official assessments.

Committed to green management, MGM has received the “Best GRI Report” at the Hong Kong ESG Reporting Awards 2023. Additionally, it also won the “Role Model of Sustainability” and “Outstanding Employer” awards at the 12th China Finance Summit, highlighting the company’s dedication to aligning with the nation’s “dual carbon” goals and sustainable development in the Greater Bay Area.
