MGM Organizes Employee Culinary Contest to Showcase Macau’s Diverse Food Culture
Showcasing Team Members’s Culinary Talent Fostering Cultural Exchange
MGM recently organized the “2024 MGM Employee Culinary Contest”.

MGM recently organized the “2024 MGM Employee Culinary Contest”, which offers its employees the opportunity to showcase their culinary skills while celebrating Macau's diverse and vibrant food culture. The event also aims to further strengthen Macau's reputation as a “Creative City of Gastronomy”. Held at MGM COTAI under the theme of “Hometown Dishes,” the competition was open to non-chef full-time team members and divided into two categories: “Chinese Hometown Dish” and “Non-Chinese Hometown Dish.” Over a hundred MGM team members from different countries and regions took part in the competition. After a series of fierce contests, 16 contestants made it to the final round. In the end, Jason Wang from Table Games and Yowared Chuklang from Spa stood out with their excellent cooking skills and won the championships of Chinese Hometown Dish Cantonese and Non-Chinese Hometown Dish respectively.

 

Distinguished guests who are invited to be the panel of judges included Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited; Wang Mizhi, Deputy Head of Division of the Social Work Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Betty Fok, Head of Destination Marketing Department of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Ho Sut Heng, President of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions; Ng Sio Lai, Director of the General Union of Neighborhood Association of Macao; Lam Un Mui, Deputy Director of the Women's General Association of Macau; Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM; Iwan Dietschi, Senior Vice President of Hospitality of MGM; Julien Moreno, Executive Director of Food & Beverage of MGM; Antonieta Manhão, a seasoned and renowned chef in Macau; Adam Mathis, Director of Culinary of MGM; Homan Tsui, Executive Chef of MGM and Yang Dengquan, Executive Sous Chef of MGM.

 

Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “MGM has organized various activities to encourage team members to maintain work-life balance, while enhancing our team members’ sense of belonging at work. The Employee Culinary Contest has embodied MGM's family-like culture. While preparing the dishes of their hometown during the competition, the participants introduced the culture and culinary specialties of their hometown to each other, which also helped foster cultural exchange among them. Furthermore, the competition truly reflects Macau’s culinary diversity as a ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’ where East meets West.”

 

Jason Wang, the winner of the “Chinese Hometown Dish” category, is an enthusiastic cook. He said, “I spent a month preparing for this competition and carefully refined my dish ‘Bo Bo Chicken (Delicious Skewers)’. I am grateful to the Company for organizing this competition and it was a lot of fun!” Yowared Chuklang is the winner of the “Non-Chinese Hometown Dish” category. She won with her dish “Squid with Green Curry Sauce and Rice Noodles”, which also garnered her the “Best Presentation Award”. She said, “I had previously cooked some dishes from my hometown and shared them with my colleagues. They loved it and encouraged me to take part in this competition. I am so happy to have won. Thank my colleagues for their support!”
