MGM Inaugurates Industry’s First Macau SME Committee
[Macau – November 30, 2015] The first MGM SME Business Matching Session co-hosted by MGM China with the Macao Chamber of Commerce (MCC), supported by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and event partner, the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM), was held today at MGM MACAU’s Grand Ballroom. The occasion also witnessed the establishment of the MGM SME Committee with an inauguration ceremony.

The MGM SME Committee inauguration ceremony took place at 3pm today. In addition to the Committee Members, the occasion was graced by Guests of Honor Mr. Sou Tim Peng, Director of Macao Economic Services of the Macao SAR, representing Mr. Lionel Leong Vai Tac, Secretary of Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR; Mr. Chui Yuk Lum, Vice-President of Board of Directors of Macao Chamber of Commerce; Ms. Gloria Ung, Executive Committee Member of the Administrative Committee of IPIM, and Dr. Shuen Ka Hung, Vice President of Board of Directors of CPTTM.
MGM SME Business Matching Session
At the business matching session today, focus was placed on cultivating three key local SME segments: “Micro SMEs”, “Made in Macau” and “Young Entrepreneurs”. The business matching session had an overwhelming response as it has attracted over 319 local SMEs. Each SME merchant was provided a meeting with an MGM representative from the corresponding department to ensure a productive business matching opportunity.
Committed to “Creating a Better Macau Today” and fulfilling its corporate social responsibility, MGM China has consistently supported the Macau SME community with over 80% of its procurement spend going to local Macau businesses in 2014. To ensure further progress and longevity of this program, MGM China will host quarterly matching activities to develop sector specific relationships and focus on near-term opportunities.
MGM SME Committee
MGM China is leading the industry on the important initiative of focusing on SMEs by creating the MGM SME Committee, which comprises of local business leaders, academics and management team members of MGM China, with the objective to build a platform for the development of local SMEs, and to enhance business relationships for future opportunities.
Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited also MGM SME Committee member, said, “As a Macau based corporation, MGM is committed to supporting local SMEs by cultivating existing and new business relationships. Mr. Chui Yuk Lum, Vice-President of the MCC, said, “MGM China has done a lot of work in recent years to promote tourism, arts and cultural aspects in line with the Government’s efforts to create diversification in Macau’s economy. With the establishment of MGM SME Committee, the MCC will certainly fulfill the duties as one of the members, and strive to strengthen business cooperation between MGM China and local SMEs.”
SME Business Information Platform
MGM China is first to be featured on CPTTM’s SME Business Information Platform, which streamlines SME bids and provides new partners with easy access to MGM’s procurement plans and information to boost collaboration. At the inaugural ceremony, CPTTM’s representatives briefed attendees on the operation of the system. An enquiry hotline is setup to provide technical support to SMEs.
