MGM and CFGC Jointly Host Global Premiere of Promise of Decades
A Collaboration between Film Crews from Mainland China and Macao
MGM and China Film Group Corporation (CFGC) hosted the global premiere of Promise of Decades last friday (December 6) at the Dom Pedro V Theater in Macao.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, MGM and China Film Group Corporation (CFGC) hosted the global premiere of Promise of Decades last Friday (December 6) at the Dom Pedro V Theater in Macao. This film, jointly produced by teams from Mainland China and Macao with the support of the Cultural Development Fund of the Macao SAR Government, Promise of Decades aims to spur the development of Macao’s film industry, highlighting the s local character and cultural identity of Macao.

 

Directed by Macao filmmaker Tracy Choi, the film features a diverse cast from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. Set against the background of Macao’s return to the motherland, the story follows the ups-and-downs of a young couple whose bond deepens amidst the trials of history surrounding this pivotal event. Through the vicissitudes of life, the couple eventually finds solace in a joyous reunion across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The film, set in Macao, seeks to boost tourism and showcase local creativity to both mainland and international audiences, ultimately providing more opportunities for local filmmakers to shine on the global stage.

 

Promise of Decades is a collaboration between production teams from Mainland China and Macao, with lead production by the China Film Co., Ltd., China Film Creative (Beijing) Film Co., Ltd.,CFGC (Beijing) Film Studio Co., Ltd. as producers, and co-production by MGM, Yangshipin Integrated Media Development Co., Ltd., and Beijing Jinghe Culture Media Co., Ltd.. Local distribution in Hong Kong and Macao managed by C-Color Culture Entertainment Limited. Co-distributors in Hong Kong are Sil-Metropole Organization Ltd., YES Culture Limited, Local Production Limited and Creative Media Network Company Limited.

 

The premiere was specially held at the Dom Pedro V Theater, one of the filming locations that holds immense cultural significance. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland in this historic theater, known as the first Western-style theater in China that has witnessed Macao’s cultural and artistic development for over a century, marks a new milestone in the collaborative film industries development in the two regions. Officiating guests at the premiere include Wu Zhiliang, Deputy Director of the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and President of the Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau; Wang Huijie, Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Cheang Kai Meng, Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; Jennifer Si Tou, Head of the Tourism Product and Events Department of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Hoi Kam Un, Member of Administrative Committee of Cultural Development Fund; Liu Changmei, the film’s distributor in Hong Kong and Macao, who is also the founder of C-Color Culture Entertainment Limited and Pansy Ho, Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited. The film’s director Tracy Choi, producer Cheung Ka Fai, stars Ci Sha and Laurinda Ho, co-star Eric Tsang and Joy Liu also attended to interact with fans and share behind-the-scenes stories.

 

Promise of Decades creates a window for cultural exchange between Macao and the mainland through film culture, emphasizing Macao’s role as a hub for diverse cultural interactions with Chinese culture as the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist. The film will be released simultaneously in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao on December 14, 2024.
