MGM Presents “Black Myth: Wukong” Symphony Concert at Lunar New Year
Dive into the majestic realm of the game with an unparalleled concert experience
MGM presents the “Black Myth: Wukong” Symphony Concert this Lunar New Year.

As a pioneer of cultural tourism, MGM has been supporting the development of Macau into a “City of Performing Arts” by organizing innovative and diverse art and entertainment events. In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the MGM Theater is proud to present the “Black Myth: Wukong” Symphony Concert, co-produced by Poly Performing Arts and “Black Myth: Wukong”. Featuring a selection of music from the game, “Black Myth: Wukong” Symphony Concert is a bold crossover between music and game that combines symphonic and traditional Chinese music to create an unprecedented epic adventure. In addition, the animated short films from the game will be played during the performance to allow the audience to immerse in the majestic and fantastical world of Journey to the West's Eastern mythology.

The upcoming performance at the MGM Theater in Macau represents the “Black Myth: Wukong” Symphony Concert's initial move towards engaging a global audience. Following successful performances in various Chinese cities, including Taiyuan, Nanjing, Harbin, and Wuhan, the choice of the MGM Theater for this performance is closely linked to the unique strengths of this venue, which offers audiences a new viewing experience.

The MGM Theater, Asia's first dynamic theater, is equipped with a 900-square-meter 4K LED screen—the size of three tennis courts—and is the world's first theater capable of offering 28-million-pixel of viewing pleasure to its audience. Here, audiences will be awed by the grandeur of the AAA game scenes shown on the theater's giant screen.

MGM is set to deliver an extraordinary audiovisual feast to its audiences this Lunar New Year. The MGM Theater is using L-ISA, an immersive sound technology that overcomes the difficulties of traditional amplification methods to create a multidimensional auditory experience. This cutting-edge technology accurately reproduces every in-game sound detail, enabling audiences to hear the rush of the wind as Wukong rides on clouds and the intense clash of weapons in battle with unparalleled clarity.

Last December, as the residency show Macau 2049 directed by Zhang Yimou premiered at the MGM Theater, the production innovatively presented eight forms of intangible cultural heritage. Among others, in the “Storytelling∙Origin” section, the timeless story of Sun Wukong is vividly told through the art of exquisite Shanbei storytelling, captivating the audience with its rich cultural heritage.

MGM Theater: Showcasing Traditional Culture Worldwide

“Black Myth: Wukong”, a standout Chinese video game, embodies a deep traditional cultural heritage and showcases the richness of the Chinese tradition. As an international metropolis and a hub of cultural exchange between East and West, Macau offers a unique atmosphere of cultural integration that attracts audiences from all over the world. With its advanced facilities, prime location, and exceptional influence on cultural dissemination, the MGM Theater serves as an important venue for various performances.

The “Black Myth: Wukong” Symphony Concert at the MGM Theater will be a new art form to introduce traditional Chinese culture to the world. This concert gives audiences worldwide the opportunity to experience China's thriving gaming industry and the depth of its traditional culture, ushering in a new chapter of cultural exchange and heritage.

This Lunar New Year, be captivated by the awe and emotion of the “Black Myth: Wukong” Symphony Concert. The performance will take place on February 1 and 2 at 15:00 and 19:30 at the MGM Theater. Experience the breathtaking moments where music meets game, East meets West, and tradition meets modernity. Three new songs will be premiered at this performance and each audience member will receive a set of exquisite, themed merchandise, including a T-shirt, canvas bag, and New Year couplets.
