MEDIA RELEASES
[MACAU, March 19, 2025] The POLY MGM MUSEUM (“Museum”) is a pioneering global institution that brings the rich stories of world cultures to life, offering a distinct perspective on the enduring connections of the Silk Road. As a must-visit destination for cultural enthusiasts and travelers, the Museum captivates audiences with its groundbreaking architecture, technology, and seamless fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. From mesmerizing multimedia installations to innovative gallery spaces, every element of the Museum promises an immersive journey through art, history, and innovation. Since its opening in November 2024, the Museum has transformed Macau’s cultural landscape, drawing nearly 600,000 visitors and clinching four prestigious international design awards in just four months of operation.
These accolades include the 2025 iF Design Award (Interior Architecture and Cultural Exhibitions categories), the 2024 MUSE Award Platinum for Interior Design, the 2024 London Design Award Platinum for Interior Design, and the 2024 New York Architectural Design Awards Gold for Interior Design. Each recognition underscores the Museum’s pioneering design and profound cultural significance, elevating it to the global stage as one of the world’s premier cultural landmarks.
Global Recognition for Cultural Innovation
These achievements build upon MGM’s legacy of design excellence — following its 2021 MUSE Award win — and reaffirm the brand’s commitment to trailblazing innovation and exceptional design across its properties.
Moreover, the esteemed iF Design Award — widely celebrated as the “Oscars of the design industry” since its inception in 1953 — marks another milestone for MGM. This prestigious honor places the Museum alongside respected Chinese institutions, such as Kunming’s Mountain & Sea Art Museum and the Hunan Museum’s “Mawangdui Digital Exhibition”, both recipients of this renowned accolade.
For the POLY MGM MUSEUM, Poly Culture Group and MGM commissioned SIGONGtech — a leading South Korean cultural technology firm known for its cutting-edge technology and innovative design — to create and realize the space alongside Jindalu Exhibition Co., Ltd, a prominent Chinese enterprise recognized for its cultural depth and construction excellence.
New Horizons in Museum Design
The POLY MGM MUSEUM stands as Macau’s iconic cultural landmark, seamlessly blending Eastern and Western cultures, as well as tradition and innovation, through distinctive design elements that have captured global acclaim. At the heart of the Museum’s immersive lobby lies a stunning multimedia dome installation, crafting a captivating visual allegory of celestial movements and human memory. The iconic Dougong column, a masterpiece of traditional Chinese architectural craftsmanship adorned with intricate cloisonné enamel work on copper, exemplifies the harmonious blend of historical techniques with contemporary presentation.
Breaking away from conventional museum designs, the Museum’s innovative spatial galleries offer unparalleled flexibility and adaptability. Its checkerboard stone flooring, exquisitely inlaid with cultural motifs from 12 nations along the Silk Road, takes visitors on a symbolic journey mirroring the historic Silk Road’s path from east to west. Advanced artifact display technologies harmonize with intangible cultural heritage craftsmanship, creating an interactive platform for engaging with both historical artifacts and contemporary art in entirely novel ways. By curating a dynamic and meaningful dialogue between Eastern and Western civilizations, the Museum delivers an unforgettable cultural experience that transcends time, geography, and imagination.
