MGM Hosts "Sharing Session on National People's Congress and National Political Consultative Conference"
MGM held the “Sharing Session on National People's Congress and National Political Consultative Conference” for the sixth consecutive year, allowing all sectors of Macau to understand the Nation’s development strategies.

MGM is dedicated to upholding the Nation’s spirit and supporting its development strategies. Following the conclusion of the National People's Congress (NPC) and National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), also known as Two Sessions, MGM organized the “Sharing Session on National People's Congress and National Political Consultative Conference” at MGM MACAU earlier this month.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Pansy Ho, Member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC and Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited.  Keynote speakers included Kou Hoi In, Member of the Standing Committee of NPC and President of the Legislative Assembly of Macao SAR; Ho Sut Heng, Deputy to NPC and President of Macao Federation of Trade Unions; Kevin Ho, Deputy to NPC and President of the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau; Ho Ion Sang, Member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Macao SAR, and Wong Kit Cheng, Member of the National Committee of CPPCC and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Macao SAR. The speakers shared key messages of the Two Sessions with over 350 on-site attendees, including MGM team members, students and professors from the University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic University, Macau University of Science and Technology, and City University of Macau, and members of the General Association of Macau Beijing Organization. The event was also live-streamed to MGM's back-of-house area, engaging over 3,000 participants both online and offline.

The sharing session was attended by a distinguished lineup of guests and MGM senior management, including Sun Yaohua, Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of  MGM China Holdings Limited; Hubert Wang, President & Chief Operating Officer of  MGM China Holdings Limited; Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM; Antonio Menano, Executive Vice President of Legal and General Counsel of MGM; and Tian Han, Executive Vice President of Strategic Marketing of MGM.

Pansy Ho stated that this year marks the conclusion of the Nation's 14th Five-Year Plan, the preparatory year for the 15th Five-Year Plan, the inaugural year of the sixth-term Government of the Macao SAR, and a new phase in the development of the Greater Bay Area. For the first time, the Central Government’s work report emphasized "strengthening international exchanges and cooperation" specifically for Hong Kong and Macau, highlighting an enhanced role for Macau in bridging China with the world. As a pivotal window for high-level national opening-up, Macau should leverage its unique advantages under "One Country, Two Systems" to develop practical capabilities that facilitate participation in global affairs. Furthermore, efforts must be made to strengthen Macau’s role as “One Center, One Platform, One Base”, especially protecting its rich culture and continuing to promote Chinese culture worldwide using Macau as a platform.

Kou Hoi In said we saw various significant measures taken by the Nation to ensure economic stability last year which bolstered social confidence and laid a robust foundation for economic recovery. On one hand, Macau must adequately prepare to overcome potential risks in order to maintain stable economic growth. On the other hand, it is essential to align with national strategies using a forward-thinking and innovative approach — tackling international changes and challenges — to achieve long-term development and stability for both Hong Kong and Macau.

Ho Sut Heng emphasized that the Central Government’s work report underscores economic growth and people's well-being, reflecting a people-oriented development philosophy. The report advocates for Macau to deepen its international exchanges and cooperation, thereby accelerating the city’s economic diversification and enhancing its contribution to the Nation’s high-level opening-up strategy. Furthermore, with an increasing number of Macau residents expected to participate in the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Ho proposed exploring the feasibility of innovative breakthroughs in the labor rules system within the cooperation zone. This initiative aims to motivate Macau employees to enhance their capabilities and seize significant opportunities presented by the cooperation zone.

Kevin Ho noted that, due to the complex external environment and downward pressure on the domestic economy in 2024, our nation has promptly adjusted its strategies and introduced incremental policies to stabilize the economy and boost domestic demand. As a result, the GDP grew by 5% year-on-year in 2024, showcasing continued improvement in people's lives. The GDP growth target for this year remains at 5%, but challenges are anticipated to be greater. As Premier Li Qiang emphasized, confidence and practical efforts are crucial. Therefore, we must maintain faith in both our nation and ourselves, leveraging this confidence as a driving force for further development.

Ho Ion Sang stated that during the conference, Macau members of the CPPCC National Committee focused on the integration of Hengqin and Macau and Macau's economic and livelihood issues. The conference yielded fruitful results, with several reports sending positive signals of "high-quality development, reform, people-oriented benefits, and strong confidence", which will guide Macau’s deeper integration into national development strategies. In addition, National leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, showed particular concern for Macau's economic diversification. Moving forward, Macau members will continuously play an active role in implementing the decisions and deployments of the Two Sessions.

Wong Kit Cheng stated that the Central Government’s work report emphasizes the Nation's unwavering commitment to Macau's "One Country, Two Systems" principle, demonstrating steadfast support for Macau's economic development and the construction of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. The report also highlights the Nation’s determination to foster childbirth and people-oriented policies. She also urges Macau to align with the Nation to provide beneficial strategies to achieve these goals. Drawing from her own experience, Wong also encourages the younger generation to seize opportunities, work hard, and leverage societal support to excel.
