The inaugural “MGM Discoveries Art Prize”, presented by MGM in collaboration with Art Basel Hong Kong, announced its first-ever winner today: Shin Min, represented by P21 (Seoul).  The award recognizes the originality and innovation of emerging international artists, aiming to amplify their visibility in the global art world.

The award ceremony was held at the MGM Lounge during Art Basel Hong Kong 2025. Mr. Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, and Ms. Angelle Siyang-Le, Director of Art Basel Hong Kong, presented the prize.

Mr. Kenneth Feng,“ MGM and Art Basel Hong Kong share a common vision of fostering global artistic and cultural development. The joint establishment of the ‘MGM Discoveries Art Prize’ is a commitment to discovering emerging artists and celebrate their originality and creativity, offering a platform to thrive their potential and grow. In addition, through the international cultural endeavours, Macau is uniting closely with Hong Kong and the global stage, expanding Macau’s global network and exchange.”

Ms. Angelle Siyang-Le said, “To further amplify our support the art ecosystem in the region, and nurture new talent, we are pleased to announce Shin Min, represented by P21, as the first winner of the MGM Discoveries Art Prize. Our esteemed international jury selected Shin Min from a remarkable pool of artists showcased in the Discoveries Sector, which highlights emerging artists and galleries through solo presentations of recent projects. We extend our sincere gratitude to MGM for their invaluable support, as well as to all the artists, galleries, and jury members involved in the award ceremony.”

The inaugural MGM Discoveries Art Prize judging panel consisted of five international arts and culture experts. Drawing on their diverse cultural backgrounds, artistic vision, and professional expertise, the panel selected Shin Min as the first winner.

Shin Min captivated the jury with her groundbreaking installation, Ew! There is hair in the food!!. She uses potent symbolism and personal experiences to confront societal norms and systemic injustices.  She hopes this work will serve as a powerful tool to raise societal awareness and ultimately improve working conditions for the public.

In recognition of her achievement, Shin Min and her representing gallery, P21(Seoul), received a prize of USD 50,000 and the opportunity to be invited by MGM to hold an exhibition and engage in artistic exchanges in Macau.

On the same day, MGM hosted an exclusive Art Basel Hong Kong guided tour for around 50 Macau’s cultural and educational leaders and representatives, including Leong Wai Man, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office of the Macao SAR Government. They appreciated world-class artworks and discovered the latest trends in the international art scene, inspiring new ideas and momentum for the development of arts and culture in Macau.

Looking ahead, MGM remains committed to bringing fresh art perspectives to Macau and the Greater Bay Area through the “MGM Discoveries Art Prize” and a variety of international art and cultural activities. By inspiring the next generation of artists, MGM aims to nurture creative talent and contribute to the growth of the Greater Bay Area’s art and cultural landscape.
