[May 28 2025, Macau] In its continuous efforts in promoting scientific education among Macau’s youth, MGM has once again partnered with the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau (MAPST) and the Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA)—the nation’s top academic institution in aerospace—to organize the “MGM Youth Popular Science series: Macau Space Dream Project”. The project marked the CSA’s inaugural science education initiative in Macau in 2024 and was honored as an “Outstanding Event of the 2024 National Science Popularization Day” by the China Association for Science and Technology. The opening ceremony took place at MGM MACAU on May 24, drawing over 350 local students, teachers, and technology professionals. This initiative aims to ignite curiosity and nurture future talent in science and innovation for Macau.
Following its successful launch last year, the “Macau Space Dream Project” has become the city’s first educational program dedicated to space science and payload technology for local youth which was built around the pillars of “Learning, Practice, and Research”. The six-month project features two major components: the “Macau Youth Creative Design Competition of Space Experiment” for high school students from Form 1 to 5, and the “Call from Deep Space” Experiential Camp for Primary 5 and 6 students. Activities include hands-on workshops, expert-led classes, and research trips to Mainland China.
Beyond this project, MGM continues to support science education with the MAPST, including the 2025 National Youth Science Camp and the launch of its sub-camp in Macau. As part of the “MGM Youth Popular Science” series, MGM will also share practical insights with local youth on how science and technology are applied in integrated resorts, enriching their learning through real-world case studies.
Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said: “MGM is deeply committed to nurturing young talent with innovative thinking. This year, under the Macao SAR Government’s policy to ‘enhance overall scientific literacy’, we’ve enriched the program with lectures by national aerospace experts and exclusive visits to aerospace research facilities in Mainland China for outstanding participants. We also invite students to our POLY MGM MUSEUM and the Macau 2049 residency show to experience how technology and culture intertwine. MGM aspires to cultivate science talents in Macau and support China’s ‘new quality productive forces.’”
Chui Sai Peng Jose, President of the MAPST, said: “The MAPST has been promoting science education through diverse activities. We aim to spark innovation and hands-on capabilities among local youth while broadening their perspectives in space science. As President Xi encourages, Macau can leverage its unique advantages to bridge international youth engagement through space science and showcase the success of ‘One Country, Two Systems’.”
Jiang Jun, Vice Secretary-General of the CSA, said: “Co-organized by the CSA, MAPST, and MGM, the ‘Macau Space Dream Project’ is the first event in Macau related to space science and payload technology for youth. In 2025, we’ll continue with the experiential camp for primary students and the design competition for secondary students.”
Macau Youth Creative Design Competition of Space Experiment
Before the competition, national aerospace experts will provide comprehensive training for the participants, covering case studies and an overview of China’s aerospace sector. After the training, each team will submit an experiment proposal, which will be evaluated by the CSA experts and local professionals.
Winners of Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Merit Awards will join a space science study tour in Mainland China. The champion team will represent Macau in the “2025 International Space Science and Scientific Payload Competition” (ISSSP 2025) in Hong Kong this November. Participants will also watch the immersive Macau 2049 show to see how traditional culture integrates with cutting-edge technology.
“Call from Deep Space" Experiential Camp
Primary students will join a one-day camp taught by the CSA and local tutors. Using an interactive “script game” format, students will accomplish space-themed missions and apply theory through workshops that cover AI, newly introduced this year, and rocket science—building and launching water rockets, assembling satellite models, and more.
Outstanding participants may also join a study trip in Zhuhai and visit the POLY MGM MUSEUM to explore Chinese history through advanced technology.
The "Macau Space Dream Project" is advised by the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) of the Macao SAR Government, and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) of the Macao SAR Government. The event is supported by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Exchange Office of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST); Beijing Institute of Technology; Chinese Educators Association of Macau; Macau Catholic Schools Association; Macao Civil Service Educational Association; Macao Science Center Limited; and Macau Youth Science Education Association.
