MGM and Macao Chamber of Commerce Join Forces to Drive Upgrading and Innovation Among Food Industry SMEs
Co-organizing “SME Quality Enhancement Greater Bay Area Exchange Tour” to Build a New Future for Macau’s Food Sector
MGM and the Guangdong Office of the Macao Chamber of Commerce jointly organized the “SME Quality Enhancement Greater Bay Area Exchange Tour.”

[July 22, 2025, Macau] MGM remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the growth of Macau’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through a diverse array of initiatives aimed at elevating quality, advancing digital transformation and strengthening brand development. Building on the success of last year’s “Seizing Business Opportunities in the Cooperation Zone” SME Cooperation Program—co-organized with the Guangdong Office of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, the two parties have once again joined hands to host the “SME Quality Enhancement Greater Bay Area Exchange Tour” from July 21 to 22. This initiative is supported by the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute and the Municipal Affairs Bureau, all of which sent representatives to participate.

MGM has invited 20 local SMEs from the food industry that are eager to expand or innovate. Most of these participants are food manufacturers or popular local food brands, with some of them already certified under Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) food safety standards and have attained “M Mark” certification. The exchange tour aims to promote the upgrading and transformation of traditional industries, enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness among SMEs, helping them adapt to a diversified and modern economic environment.

In-Depth Visits to Benchmark Enterprises in the Greater Bay Area

The delegation embarked on a comprehensive itinerary featuring in-depth visits to several benchmark food and packaging enterprises across the Greater Bay Area. These included the logistics and production base of Mi Liang Ren Liang (Guangzhou) Supply Chain Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Jiumaojiu Group; the ready-meal production line of Guangdong Houchu Food Co., Ltd.; the innovative packaging facility of Guangdong Haoling Creative Packaging Co., Ltd.; and the modern production base of Olson Food Company (Jiangmen) Ltd. known for its October Fifth Bakery brand. The delegation was also warmly received by Tang Huihong, Vice Chairperson of the Jiangmen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Zhong Wenming, Party Secretary and Director of the Jiangmen Investment Promotion Bureau. Together, they engaged in a meaningful dialogue exploring opportunities for industrial synergy between Macau and Jiangmen. The group also visited the Jiangmen Premium Products Experience Store on the city’s iconic 33 Market Street.

Simon Leong, Assistant Vice President of Purchasing at MGM stated, “SME procurement accounts for 35% of MGM’s total purchasing amount. Through this exchange tour, we aim to stimulate innovation and upgrading within Macau’s food sector while fostering more favorable conditions for SME development. Participants will gain valuable exposure to the latest industry trends, strategic transformation approaches and applications of new technologies. By learning from the best practices of benchmark enterprises, we hope they can inject fresh momentum into their own operations.”

Ma Chi Tat, Vice President of the Macao Chamber of Commerce and Deputy Director of the Working Committee for Participation in the Construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area remarked, “Building on the success of last year’s initiative, we are further leveraging the network and resources of our Guangdong Office to expand collaborations across the Greater Bay Area. This program is designed to create opportunities for exchange and advancement for Macau’s SMEs, in alignment with the SAR Government’s policy to promote the transformation and modernization of traditional industries.”

Advancing Food Safety and Professional Training

Since 2021, MGM has been dedicated to supporting the development of local SMEs in Macau’s food industry. In collaboration with the Industrial Association of Macau, the Company has actively encouraged high-potential enterprises to pursue “M Mark” certification to elevate product quality and market credibility.  In 2023, MGM partnered with the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM) to launch the “MGM Food Hygiene and Safety Management Course,” subsidizing training and examination for food-sector SMEs. Graduates receive an internationally recognized HACCP certification, laying a strong foundation for their “M Mark” applications. Now in its third edition, the program introduces an advanced HACCP food safety course. This higher-level training is designed to cultivate skilled professionals in Macau’s food safety sector and strengthen the sustainable development of the local food industry.
