POLY MGM MUSEUM’s “Intangible Cultural Heritage Conversation Series” Concludes Successfully
Enhancing Public Interest and Awareness of Intangible Cultural Heritage Crafts
The three sharing sessions attracted nearly 600 attendees, including museum professionals, educators and students, cultural association members, industry stakeholders, and the public.

[August 8, 2025, Macau] The POLY MGM MUSEUM (Museum) has successfully concluded its “Intangible Cultural Heritage Conversation Series”, which commenced in June. The series comprised three thematic sharing sessions, each spotlighting a unique intangible cultural heritage craft: cloisonné, Guangcai porcelain, and pith painting. With distinguished speakers including a national-level representative inheritor of intangible cultural heritage craft, Palace Art Specialized Committee delegates, a master artisan, and a restoration expert, the series facilitated in-depth discussions on the profound history, craftsmanship, and contemporary innovation of these traditional arts.

The three sharing sessions attracted nearly 600 attendees, including museum professionals, educators and students, cultural association members, industry stakeholders, and the public, in which their enthusiastic response reflected a growing public interest in the preservation and appreciation of intangible cultural heritage. In addition to these public sessions, speakers also engaged in professional exchanges with the Museum’s docents, further enhancing their expertise and enriching the cultural tourism experience offered by MGM.

The final session was held today (August 8) at the POLY MGM MUSEUM, featuring Zhang Jing, the Restoration Technician of Qing Dynasty Pith Paintings and Deputy Director of the Guangzhou Pith Art Committee. Titled “Contemporary Inheritance of Pith Painting”, Zhang’s presentation offered a cross-temporal artistic dialogue by juxtaposing contemporary works with the Museum’s exhibits, allowing audiences to gain deeper insight into how this 19th-century export art from Guangzhou continues to flourish in the modern era. As a world-class cultural tourism landmark committed to showcasing the beauty of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, the POLY MGM MUSEUM continues to serve as a vital platform for cultural promotion and exchange. Through ongoing initiatives, it plays a pivotal role in supporting Macau’s development as “a base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist”, while amplifying the global reach of Chinese cultural stories.

Beyond this series promoting cloisonné, Guangcai porcelain, and pith painting, MGM has long championed the preservation and innovation of intangible cultural heritage, including lion dance and other traditional art forms. Through interdisciplinary collaborations—such as residency shows, workshops, and community activities—MGM brings these traditional cultures into everyday life, integrating them into communities and daily experiences. Moving forward, MGM will continue to uphold its philosophy of “Art of Living”, leveraging platforms such as the POLY MGM MUSEUM and “Fantasy Box” to inspire public exploration of diverse cultures and foster cross-sector dialogue and exchange.
