MEDIA RELEASES

The MGM Macau Tennis Masters has quickly become one of Macau’s most anticipated festive season highlights. Returning for its third edition on 27 and 28 December 2025, the tournament will once again bring world-class tennis and spectacular entertainment to the dazzling Macao Forum.
For the first time, two female legends will lead the teams — Li Na and Conchita Martínez. Grand Slam champions and International Tennis Hall of Famers, Li Na and Conchita Martínez are ready to battle for victory in a contest that celebrates excellence, rivalry and the spirit of the game.
Details of the 2025 MGM Macau Tennis Masters were announced today at a press conference at MGM COTAI. The press conference was attended by distinguished guests including Catarina Lio, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing of MGM, Michelle Ip, Head of the Tourism Product and Events Department of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Lam Weng Cheong, Acting Head of Sports Facilities Management Department of the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Ma Iao Iao, Chairman of the Macau Tennis Association, and Li Na, Event Captain, Former WTA world ranking No. 2 and two-time Grand Slam singles champion.
Catarina Lio, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing of MGM, said, “Amid the city-wide excitement for the 15th National Games, we are delighted to announce the return of this tennis extravaganza. It not only highlights Macau's strength in hosting top-tier international events but also showcases the diverse charm of Macau as a 'City of Sports'. This year's tournament specially features an all-female captain lineup to celebrate the power of women. Paired with youth-oriented interactive sessions and cross-disciplinary dialogues, the event invites the audience to witness how the spirit of sports inspires and amplifies the voice of women in the new era while enjoying the matches. We hope this event adds vibrant energy to Macau's year-end festive season and connects the world through sports, demonstrating the city's infinite charm.”
“When we first brought professional tennis to Macau three years ago, we knew this city had something special — and the response from fans has been incredible. The MGM Macau Tennis Masters has become part of the city’s festive DNA — a celebration of sport, friendship, and energy. Welcoming Li Na back as captain is an honor — she remains one of the most admired figures in global tennis. And with Conchita Martínez joining for the first time, we look forward to an even more dynamic and entertaining edition of the event.” said Luiz Carvalho, Tournament Director and Mari Group Senior Vice President of Tennis Events.
This year’s edition will shine a spotlight on two vibrant themes. The first theme of “Play. Celebrate. Repeat.” sets the tone for a festive, lifestyle-driven event that blends world-class tennis with Macau’s holiday magic, brought to life through engaging fan zones and off-court experiences. Meanwhile, the second theme of “Women Power” draws inspiration from the all-female captain line-up and will feature special sessions that offer fans a closer look at the stories and strengths of women in sport. Further details of these themed experiences will be revealed in the coming weeks.
The two-day team event will feature a series of fast-paced, best-of-three-set matches, with a champions tiebreak to decide the final set. Day One will include a Captain’s Challenge, two men’s singles and a mixed doubles match, while Day Two will feature another Captain’s Challenge, alongside one women’s singles and two men’s singles matches, as well as the concluding Awards Ceremony.
Among the rising and established stars joining the 2025 line-up are Mirra Andreeva, Alexandra Eala, Jerry Shang, Jack Draper and Jakub Menšík. The final ATP player will be announced in the coming weeks, while team rosters, including which players will play under each captain, will be revealed in the lead-up to the event.
“Last year we had a great time and it’s going to be equally entertaining this time. Everybody is competitive and having all these great players will make things very exciting. My team did not win the last time, so I am going to be even more determined to change things this year. I never played against Conchita, but I am ready to take her on in Macau – captain against captain. Conchita has done a great job coaching Mirra Andreeva, but maybe I should try and get Mirra on my team. That will be an interesting turn of events.” Li said.
Eighteen-year-old Mirra Andreeva has enjoyed a meteoric rise on the WTA Tour to reach a career-high ranking of World No. 5 this season. The in-form teen sensation captured titles at Indian Wells and Dubai, defeating world-class opponents including Iga Świątek and Aryna Sabalenka along the way. Her consistency has been remarkable, with quarterfinal runs at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, Rome, Madrid, and Bad Homburg, marking her as one of the sport’s brightest young stars.
Meanwhile, Filipina talent Alexandra Eala has enjoyed a breakout season that has captured global attention. The 20-year-old, who trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy, claimed her maiden WTA 125K title in Guadalajara and reached the final in Eastbourne. Her fearless run to the Miami semifinals saw her dispatch top names such as Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, Paula Badosa, and Świątek in consecutive matches — cementing her reputation as one of the most exciting new faces in women’s tennis.
China’s Jerry Shang returns to the MGM Macau Tennis Masters for a second consecutive year. The 20-year-old lefthander recently returned to the tour after recovering from foot surgery earlier in the year and is excited to pick up from where he left off. Shang made history as the only Chinese male player to win an ATP title on home soil, following his triumph at the 2024 Chengdu Open, and remains one of Asia’s most promising young stars.
Britain’s Jack Draper – affectionately known as “JD” or “Drapes” – has been on a tear this season, capturing the biggest title of his career at Indian Wells. En route to victory, he defeated Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, and Holger Rune in an electrifying display of power and composure. Draper also reached finals in Madrid and Doha, and advanced to the Round of 16 at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros, reinforcing his status as one of the most dangerous left-handers on tour.
Towering at 196cm, Czech rising star Jakub Menšík has enjoyed a stellar season that saw him achieve a career-high ranking of World No. 16. The 20-year-old’s highlight came at the Miami Open, where he stunned Novak Djokovic in the final to claim his first Masters 1000 title, defeating Fritz and Draper along the way. Menšík’s strong all-court game also earned him quarterfinal finishes in Beijing, Eastbourne, Madrid, Auckland, and Brisbane, confirming his place among tennis’s next generation of heavy-hitters.
