MGM Inspires Macau’s Next Generation at Fortune Brainstorm Design Workshop
Prototyping Tomorrow Through Cultural Preservation with Technology
As a prelude to the main event, the Fortune Brainstorm Design Workshop at the MGM Theater today (December 1) welcomed nearly 500 guests, including students, young professionals, scholars and MGM Golden Lion Team members.

[December 1, 2025, Macau] MGM, in partnership with Fortune, is proudly hosting the third annual international design and business forum “Fortune Brainstorm Design” in Macau, dedicated to fostering cross-disciplinary exchange and strengthening the city’s “MICE+” strategy and diversified economic development. This year’s forum, themed “Future Tense: Prototyping Tomorrow,” will convene over 30 global leaders and industry pioneers on December 2 to spotlight forward-thinking and practical approaches to design. Discussions will focus on the pivotal role of design and related thinking in addressing global challenges and driving responsible innovation, underscoring its influence in shaping future societies and business models. As a prelude to the main conference, MGM organized the Fortune Brainstorm Design Workshop at the MGM Theater today (December 1) under the theme of “Cultural Preservation with Technology”, welcoming around 500 guests, including students, young professionals from Macau’s leading universities and youth communities, as well as scholars and MGM Golden Lion Team members.

Macau serves as a vital bridge for East-West cultural exchange, blending a rich historical heritage with an international outlook—making it an ideal destination for exploring design innovation and cultural integration. MGM remains committed to empowering the next generation to prototype tomorrow—where technology and tradition converge to shape a vibrant, inclusive future. Today’s workshop offered a dynamic platform for local youth to engage in meaningful face-to-face dialogue with global innovators, designers and design thinkers, enriching the forum’s diversity and extending its reach and impact. The initiative aimed to ignite the creative spirit and practical skills of participants, inspiring them to embrace new ideas fearlessly and explore bold possibilities for tomorrow.

The workshop commenced with a keynote by Catarina Lio, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing of MGM. The keynote was followed by case studies from MACAU 2049, a groundbreaking residency show at the MGM Theater that blends cutting-edge technology with the timeless beauty of Chinese cultural heritage. The showcase featured stunning scenes and highlights such as “Drumming ∙ Shadows” and “Khoomei ∙ Ethereal”, demonstrating how intelligent technology enables tradition to evolve on stage—shifting from interpretation to transformation. Robotic arms echoed the rhythm of ancient folk songs, while the airflow rendered Mongolian singing visible—powerful proof that innovation can bring cultural heritage to life and help preserve rich traditions.

Catarina Lio remarked, “MACAU 2049 is more than an immersive performance—it represents MGM’s bold, systemic innovation in cultural heritage, exploring how traditional culture can thrive in the digital age. These efforts reflect some of the most pressing issues in global design today and demonstrate MGM’s commitment to future development. By integrating cutting-edge technologies such as laser projection, robotic arms, and airflow dynamics, the show breathes new life into traditional art forms. When technology meets art, it creates a universal language that transcends generations and cultures, resonating especially with younger audiences. Through originality and innovation, MGM has pioneered world-class cultural tourism experiences in Macau by integrating technology with tradition, reinforcing the city’s role as a World Center of Tourism and Leisure and a base for international exchange and co-operation where Chinese culture is the mainstream while diverse cultures coexist.”

Four international speakers shared groundbreaking projects during the workshop and engaged in an interactive Q&A with the audience. The speakers included Martin Voelkle, Partner at BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), Andrew Lazarow, Studio Leader at LAB @ Rockwell Group, Ismael Merchan, architect at Populous, and Monika Bielskyte, Futurist in Residence at Nike and founder of Protopia Futures, offered lively insights from their projects and demonstrated how technology and tradition can co-create meaningful experiences for a new generation. The workshop concluded with networking opportunities that connected the youth with the global design leaders.

The “Fortune Brainstorm Design” forum resumes tomorrow (December 2) at Macau’s next generation creative space, Fantasy Box at MGM MACAU, bringing together global design leaders and industry pioneers to foster cross-industry collaboration and forward-looking dialogue.
