From today (February 13) to February 26, MGM partners with local company Offside Concept to present the “Barra Lucky Blessing Market” at Barra District, energizing the neighborhood with fresh retail, entertainment, and cultural‑creative experiences. Blending contemporary flair with auspicious New Year elements, the initiative pairs retro‑chic aesthetics with playful good‑luck touches—transforming Barra District into a must‑visit Chinese New Year (CNY) hotspot where visitors of all ages can enjoy a “Macau‑style New Year”.
The program features a Multi-Brand Concept Store, nostalgic game booths, festive themed IP installations, hands‑on craft workshops, and CNY performances. MGM also continues its cherished community tradition by hosting the “Poon Choi Banquet”, bringing together more than 400 guests from community groups, partners, and neighboring communities—highlighting the district’s signature warmth and strong community spirit.
The opening ceremony of the “Barra Lucky Blessing Market” was held today, officiated by a distinguished lineup of guests, including Mi Peng, Advisor to the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao SAR; Cheang Hio Man, Deputy Director of the Macao Economic and Technological Development Bureau of Macao SAR; Jennifer Si Tou, Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Ho Hong Pan, Head of Department for Promoting Cultural and Creative Industries of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR; Kenneth Feng, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited; Jimmy Vong, Creative Director of Offside Concept ; Miquelina Hoi, Managing Director of Offside Concept; Bertil Butturini and Jingo Li, Founders of BERTILO; Lei Wai Kit, Founder of Macao IP UNDERDOG and Head of Brand SEMSORRISO; and Wong Keng Si, Founder of Veng Lei Laboratory.
Various Happenings for Everyone to Enjoy
At Navy Yard No.1, the Multi-Brand Concept Store gathers more than 80 brands from Macau and beyond. From chic lifestyle accessories and contemporary fashion to auspicious greenery, pet essentials, and collectible toys, the store offers a diverse selection as a one-stop destination for all festive shopping needs. The venue also features hands‑on workshops for DIY pinwheels and phone straps, enabling participants to take home personalized New Year blessings.
Beyond shopping and craft activities, locals and tourists can also explore several eye‑catching festive art installations throughout the district. Local creative brand SEMSORRISO presents “Golden Wishes”, a fiberglass artwork reimagining its original IP “UNDERDOG” as a lightweight, pink God of Wealth with a floating ingot boat—expressing a slow‑living aesthetic that welcomes good fortune. Veng Lei Laboratory’s “Embracing Fortune” is a fiberglass piece inspired by its IP “Fu Lu Shou”. Drawing from geometric ingot forms and ritual candles, this design transforms solemn rituals into daily healing, showcasing the innovative spirit of Made in Macau.
BERTILO, an original character co-created by Italian 3D artist Bertil Butturini and Chinese illustrator Jingo Li, returns once again to Barra District. This year’s new piece, “Lie in Fortune”, reimagines BERTILO as a relaxed and adorable pink God of Wealth, reclining peacefully on the water alongside a gold ingot. These artworks spark a dialogue between local creativity and global artistic vision, enriching the district with a unique cultural landscape.
In addition, MGM will launch a series of CNY-exclusive activities, including lion dance performances by the Macau 2049 resident show team, a “Stilt‑Walking God of Wealth” parade, and Spring Couplet calligraphy giveaways. These programs reinterpret traditional customs in creative ways, infusing the district with festive energy.
Poon Choi Banquet Bringing the Community Together
MGM hosted two sessions of the “Poon Choi Banquet” today, welcoming more than 400 guests from community groups, partners, and neighboring communities to celebrate the upcoming New Year. Featuring signature dishes from Barra Kitchen’s F&B outlets, the banquet blended authentic local flavors with heartfelt community warmth, further strengthening ties within the district.
Cultural‑Creative Collaboration to Promote Paper-cutting
MGM partners with Beijing Prince Kung’s Palace Museum to launch the “Blessing Lion” Intangible Cultural Heritage Paper-Cutting DIY package, inspired by lion dance and the Museum’s signature “Fu Culture”. Available at the Multi-Brand Concept Store, the collaboration combines MGM’s commitment to promoting Chinese lion dance culture with the Museum’s emblem of good fortune, reinterpreting intangible heritage through a contemporary creative approach and sharing wishes of peace and prosperity with the public.
Barra District Filled with Festive Highlights
During Chinese New Year, celebrations energize the entire Barra District. Beyond the “Barra Lucky Blessing Market”, the public can explore the achievement exhibition of the “Talent Training on the Cultural and Creative Design of Maritime Silk Road” at the Former Barra Slaughterhouse Site, enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee at Horizon Café at Navy Yard No. 2, or savor local delicacies at Barra Kitchen—joining in the joyful spirit of the Year of the Horse.
