MGM’s Two Integrated Resorts Achieve WELL Building Standard v2 Platinum Certification
Advancing from Green Buildings to Healthy Buildings, Setting a New Industry Benchmark
MGM MACAU and MGM COTAI have both awarded the highest-level Platinum certification under the WELL Building Standard v2.

The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) and MGM jointly hosted the "Beyond Green: Advancing to WELL Buildings— WELL Platinum Certification Ceremony and Thematic Session" today (June 9) at MGM COTAI. In the presence of over a hundred distinguished guests, IWBI awarded MGM MACAU and MGM COTAI the highest-level Platinum certification under the WELL Building Standard v2. Both properties achieved a score of 121 points — the highest among publicly disclosed WELL projects in China — marking MGM as the first integrated resort operator in Macau to implement “WELL at Scale” and reinforcing its leading practices in healthy buildings, human-centric design, and sustainable operations.

The WELL Building Standard, administered by IWBI, is the world’s leading certification system focused on advancing health and well-being in the built environments. It assesses how design, operations, and management work together to enhance occupants’ physical health, mental well-being, and overall experience across 10 core categories: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind, and Community. Both properties had also previously achieved the “WELL Health-Safety Rating” and “WELL Equity Rating”, further demonstrating MGM’s long-term commitment to integrating health, wellness, and equity into its operations and the experiences of its guests and employees.

Kenneth Feng, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, stated: “This dual WELL Platinum achievement for our two integrated resorts marks a significant milestone for MGM. We have long been committed to advancing green buildings and low-carbon operations. Achieving WELL certification reflects our expanded focus — from the ‘environment’ to ‘people’ — with a stronger emphasis on the physical, mental, and overall well-being of our employees and guests. Through our efforts, MGM aims to help shape new benchmarks for healthy buildings in Macau and serve as a positive example for the industry.”

Mei Xu, Senior Vice President, International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) Asia, said: “The WELL Building Standard is a human-centric framework dedicated to health and well-being, and MGM has truly brought this ‘care for people’ into practice. As of 2025, MGM has achieved 10 WELL recognitions, covering more than 750,000 square meters, and impacting over 67,000 people. MGM’s ongoing efforts in health and sustainability not only set a new benchmark for Macau’s hospitality industry, but will also continue to drive the advancement of healthy buildings across the Greater Bay Area and Asia.”

In addition to the certification ceremony, the event featured a series of thematic sharing sessions and panel discussions, including “Thriving Spaces, Transformed by WELL” and “Multidimensional Pathways to Sustainable Hospitality”. Prof. Yan Xiang, Director of the Architectural Acoustic Lab at the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, was also invited to deliver a keynote presentation titled “Ventilation Cooling Towers and Noise Control in Commercial Hotels.” Drawing on international standards, case studies, cutting-edge technologies, and refined operational practices, the sessions explored how healthy buildings can drive the hospitality industry toward high-quality and sustainable development.

The event was attended by and received strong support from representatives of government departments and partner organizations, including: Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Dr. Warren Tai Wa Hou, Acting Deputy Director of the Health Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and Acting Director of the Conde de S. Januário Hospital; Dennis Ng, Head of Environmental Planning Division of the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macau SAR Government; Mei Xu, Senior Vice President, IWBI Asia; Richard Chang, Vice President and Head of Market Development, IWBI Asia; Gary Cui, Senior Director of Sustainability Service Center at Colliers China; Kenneth Feng, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited; Antonio Menano, Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary of MGM China Holdings Limited; Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM; Keith Lei, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Sustainability of MGM; and Greg Meares, Vice President of Facilities Management of MGM.
