MGM has long been committed to supporting the development of Macau’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in elevating operational efficiency and market competitiveness through diverse initiatives. This year, MGM partnered with the Guangdong Office of the Macao Chamber of Commerce to organize the “SME Quality Enhancement Greater Bay Area Exchange Tour” for the second consecutive year. This initiative is supported by the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute, the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Shunde Federation & Commercial Union Association of Macao, all of which sent representatives to participate.
The two-day exchange tour brought together nearly 20 local food SMEs that have long partnered with MGM to visit advanced food enterprises across the Greater Bay Area (GBA), with the aim of gaining insights into the latest production technologies and market trends. MGM hopes participating SMEs will apply these insights to their own businesses, driving business transformation, upgrading and the expansion of new opportunities.
The delegation visited Foshan city and Jiangmen city, touring several representative enterprises covering food production and processing, food machinery and equipment, as well as traditional catering brands that have successfully transformed into modern chain operations. These included: Guangdong PinChain Machinery Co., Ltd.; Guangdong HOMPHON Baking Equipment Co., Ltd.; Guangdong Nan Xing Rainbow Nut Co., Ltd.; Guangdong Shunde Ouning Technology Electric Appliances Co., Ltd.; Guia (Jiangmen) Bakery Food Co. Ltd.; and the Guangdong Tinyuet Catering Management Group, the company behind the “Zhuroupo Private Home Cuisine”.
During the visit, the delegation was received by Liang Weipei, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Shunde District Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department; Tan Xi, Deputy Director of Shunde Economy Promotion Bureau, and others. A Foshan-Macau industry exchange session was held at the same time, introducing the business environment and policies in Shunde District. Both parties shared ideas and experiences on topics such as the inheritance and innovation of the food industry, production technologies, the management of restaurant chain and the enhancement of operational efficiency.
Simon Leong, Assistant Vice President of Purchasing of MGM stated, “MGM has always regarded our long-term suppliers as valued partners. Through long-term planning, MGM has introduced a diverse array of initiatives, including organizing food hygiene and safety management courses, supporting SMEs in obtaining the ‘M-Mark’ certification, and arranging visits to advanced enterprises in food packaging and back-end production last year. This year, we have facilitated the industry to gain a deeper understanding of food production technologies and market trends. Over 70% of participating SMEs have joined our GBA exchange tour for two consecutive years, demonstrating the initiative’s effectiveness. Moving forwards, MGM will continue to build platforms for Macau SMEs, supporting them in adapting to a diversified economy and modern business environment while enabling them to seize development opportunities in the GBA.”
Kevin Ho, Vice President of the Macao Chamber of Commerce stated, “The Macao SAR Government is advancing the ‘1+4’ appropriate diversification development strategy. As highlighted in Macau’s Third Five-Year Plan, which has recently concluded its public consultation, and the 2026 Policy Address, it is important to further support SMEs within Macau’s traditional food and manufacturing sectors to enhance quality, drive transformation toward specialization, premium and featured development, and expand their markets and partnerships in the GBA. Therefore, we hope that this exchange tour will serve as an opportunity to connect high-quality industrial resources across both regions, explore new collaboration pathways, and identify mutually beneficial opportunities, thereby fostering deeper cooperation across related industries and beyond.”
Carman Ying, General Manager of Gourmet House Macau LTD., stated: “I have participated in this ‘SME Quality Enhancement Greater Bay Area Exchange Tour’ for two consecutive years and have found it highly beneficial. This initiative covers different industry areas – from visiting benchmark enterprises to food and packaging enterprises to exploring advanced technologies and market trends. We have gained in-depth understanding of the food industry in the GBA, including its advanced management practices, technological applications and development trends. These insights, in turn, have enabled us to apply them within our own business to enhance efficiency and strengthen quality control for obtaining the ‘M-Mark’ certification, as well as expanding business opportunities.”
