MGM and DSAL Join Hands in Launching A Diverse Professional Workforce Development Series

Around 7,000 Team Members to Complete the Training Series

Jul 7, 2021

In view of providing more targeted trainings for different types of professionals, MGM collaborated with the Macau Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) again to launch the “Professional Workforce Development Series” for its team members. Categorized into three divisions, namely “Occupational Quality Training”, “Professional Certification” and “Career Development Program”, these series will offer professional trainings for an estimate of over 7,000 MGM team members. Through providing this series of training to its team members, MGM hopes to equip them to cope with challenges in their career path, so as to enhance the overall quality of local talent, supporting Macau’s development into the tourism education and training hub for the Greater Bay Area.

The launch ceremony of the Series took place earlier this month at MGM COTAI, attended by a line-up of guests of honors including Wong Chi Hong, Director of DSAL; Sun Yaohua, Assistant Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Serene Chan, Head of Research and Investigation Department of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau; Choi Kam Fu, Vice Director-General of The Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM); Shuen Ka Hung, Director General of Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM); Chui Wai Meng, Training Director of Macau Food Safety Management Association; Hubert Wang, President & Chief Operating Officer of MGM; and Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM. During the ceremony, the Company has especially set up a designated area for team members of Facility Management and Food and Beverage who have completed their professional certification to showcase their learning outcomes and skills to the guests.

Hubert Wang said, “MGM has been collaborating with DSAL in providing different kinds of trainings for team members, enabling them to strengthen their occupational skills and qualities. This year, the trainings extend to more areas of professions, which is expected to help elevating the Company’s overall soft power by nurturing more team members. As we truly believe that talent development is the key to maintain the competitive edge and the sustainability of Macau’s tourism industry, we look forward to continue joining hands with DSAL and other sectors in the community to promote local talent development in more innovative and diverse ways.”

Occupational Quality Training

MGM and DSAL started co-organizing “Occupational Quality Training” since 2016, aiming to optimize team member’s professional capability, awareness on occupational ethics and service quality. To date, more than 3,000 team members have been trained. On top of the newly added “Food and Beverage Industry Occupational Quality Training” from last year, the Training is extending its curriculum by adding the industry-first “Security Occupational Quality Training Program” & “Facility Management Occupational Quality Training” to its line-up. All of these programs will be completed by the end of this year to better the occupational qualities of team members from related departments.

Professional Certification

MGM currently offers two professional certification trainings, the “Facility Maintenance Training Professional Certification Program” and the “Culinary ‘One Test, Two Certifications’ Program and Skill Test”, which together trained nearly 300 team members to date. In the second half of this year, the Company will provide more certification programs, including the “Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering” with DSAL and Macau Food Safety Management Association, and the “Level 3 Certificate in Leadership ILM” with CPTTM.

Career Development Program

The PRIDE Career Development Program provides a series of training tracks to prepare high potential team members to take on their more important roles. This year, the Program continues to invite DSAL to give lectures on Macau Labor Relations Law.
