MGM China Onboard with MACA to Support Music Creators and Development

Oct 5, 2015

[Macau October 5, 2015] MGM China announces that the Company and The Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA) have reached an agreement on music public performance license which aims to protect the copyrights of all songwriters, whose works are played at the properties under MGM China.

As a supporter of arts and entertainment, the Company currently plays music of various genres at its hotel public areas, gaming floors and salons, restaurant outlets, and houses a live band at its Lion’s Bar. The agreement will also cover all areas and outlets at MGM China’s second property, MGM COTAI when it opens next year.

MACA expresses appreciation to MGM China’s efforts in protecting the copyrights of music creators and its support to the sustainable development of the cultural and creative industry. This signifies an important step toward the goal of safeguarding the interests of local and international music creators in Macau. MACA collects royalties from music users and distributes to relevant local copyright owners and affiliated societies, which saves time and efforts of the music creators who can then concentrate on creating more musical works.

MACA is currently the sole operating and registered collective management organization founded by a dedicated group of local composers led by Mr. Ung Kuoc Iang. The Association is supported by the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) and registered in the Macau Department of Identification and the Intellectual Property Department in the Economic Service. MACA was founded to reinforce the public's respect toward composers and authors, and to ensure that their creative efforts are properly remunerated.
