MGM Invites Local Autistic Artist to Design Corporate Souvenirs
Raising Public Awareness on Social Inclusion within the Community through Artistic Endeavors
Ms. Sarah Rogers , Senior Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Responsibility, Mr. Leong Ieng Wai, a young autistic artist and staff members of the Macau Fuhong Society celebrate the publication of MGM’s souvenir notepads at Grande Praça.

[July 11, 2016, Macau] MGM invited local artist Mr. Leong Ieng Wai, an autistic youth under Fuhong Society, to create a collection of corporate souvenir notepads that portray iconic images of MGM MACAU and MGM COTAI. The initiative is one of many collaborations between MGM and Macau Fuhong Society through the years, and its objective is to raise public awareness on social inclusion, which is a common goal of both parties.

The four notepad cover designs include: the hotel exterior of MGM MACAU, the emblematic Lion Statue, Grande Praça, and the hotel exterior of MGM COTAI. Each of the designs were hand-drawn sketches of Leong, who has spent months to visit MGM MACAU and had studied looked through a collection of photos to grasp the essence of each image. MGM has consistently hosted programs and activities that provide platforms for various community groups to showcase their talent, advocating for social inclusion and cohesion. Through these souvenir creation, MGM hopes to show the world that every person in our community is special and gifted in unique ways, and that we shall respect and accept everyone around us.

Ms. Jennifer Chau, Director of Fuhong Society of Macau said, “We are so grateful of this opportunity offered by MGM; it allows us to showcase Mr. Leong’s artwork on MGM’s corporate gifts to a large public. This helps to spread the message that each person has his or her own gift and special ability, and we should all come together and appreciate each other with open arms.”

Known as “0.38” because of his preference in using 0.38mm ballpoint pen for his masterful line-drawings and sharp compositions, Leong has a strong descriptive ability, sense of 3D sketching, and is able to skillfully outline persons, buildings and transportation vehicles. An autistic youth, Leong’s artistic talent was first discovered when a staff member of Fuhong found his sketches, crumpled up in the bin. Recognizing his incredible talent, Fuhong Society nurtured Leong with art classes and coaching. Leong dedicates himself to each of his creation, and sees art as a means of expressing himself, to become more comfortable and confident in communicating with the rest of the world.

Committed to “Create a Better Tomorrow Today,” MGM will continue to give back to the society through a myriad of initiatives, aimed at promoting societal inclusion and cohesion, nurturing a harmonious environment for members of different backgrounds to live and thrive, which contribute to a better future for Macau.
