MGM Recognized as One of Top 15 Global Entities Fighting Human Trafficking
Thomson Reuters Foundation Announces Global “2017 Stop Slavery Award” and Recognizes MGM for Its Leadership and Innovative Approach to Addressing Modern Slavery
MGM is selected as a top 15 global finalist for the esteemed “Stop Slavery Award” presented by Thomson Reuters Foundation.

[November 16, 2017, Macau] MGM is proud to be selected as a top 15 global finalist for the esteemed “Stop Slavery Award” presented by Thomson Reuters Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the world’s biggest news and information provider. The selection identifies MGM for its best practices and continued leadership in combating human trafficking across the globe. The announcement was made on November 15 in London. 

MGM is the first private sector organization based in Macau to bring the issue of human trafficking to the forefront. Our Company is focused on supporting the elimination of forced labor and its destructive effect on humanity. MGM has brought stakeholders from across the private, public and NGO sectors together to discuss opportunities for improvement in Macau and to foster collaboration in order to achieve meaningful progress. MGM has developed awareness and engaged people from all walks of life through a variety of initiatives including: movie screenings open to the public, forums, roundtables and business luncheons, to stimulate collaboration and action. Internally, MGM has provided anti-human trafficking trainings to its team members and established a Vendor Code of Conduct, with provisions related to supplier workplace standards in an effort to eliminate child labor, forced labor or any other violation of human rights.

“To be a finalist for such an esteemed award alongside other global enterprises is truly motivating. It is an honor and testament to our commitments and proactive approach to human rights and anti-human trafficking,” Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said. “Over the past years, we have worked vigorously to highlight this important issue. The Stop Slavery Award, now in its second year, recognizes companies that have taken concrete steps to eradicate forced labor from their supply chains. Members of the judging panel include: Nobel Peace Prize Winner Kailash Satyarthi; Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr; Britain’s Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner Kevin Hyland; Executive Director of Human Rights Watch Kenneth Roth; International Criminal Prosecutor Patricia Sellers; and Thomson Reuters Foundation CEO Monique Villa.
