As another typhoon season approaches, MGM has started a new community care program in July, distributing over 400 emergency kits to SMEs in low-lying areas as well as elderly from União Geral das Associações dos Moradores de Macau (UGAMM), the Women’s General Association of Macau and Caritas Macau, to prepare them for possible adverse situations.
The disastrous Typhoon Hato has been one daunting nightmare to all Macau citizens. Since then, MGM has initiated a number of programs to support the community in their recovery journey, such as the launch of cloud data backup service, installation of flood protection facility and donations to community services.
Right before the typhoon season this year, MGM continues to spread the care for the community by preparing two thoughtfully designed typhoon emergency kits for SMEs and elderly. Each kit contains useful tools including first-aid supplies, poncho, whistle and light torch, along with the specially designed leaflets of preparation tips and emergency contacts, which will come in handy during critical situations. In the past month, MGM team members have been traveling around the city to visit SMEs and elderly at different community service centers, giving each one of them an emergency kit.
Jiang Xuchun, Director of Seac Pai Van Family Support and Community Service Complex of UGAMM said, “The emergency kits are very considerate for including a comprehensive range of supplies to prepare elderly for the upcoming typhoons and to raise their awareness of disaster prevention. It is especially important to equip the elderly who live alone and to educate them the correct way to get prepared.”
An elderly from UGAMM, Chan Sui Fu said upon receiving a kit, “After typhoon Hato, I have learnt my lesson and will then always prepare well before every typhoon. Therefore, I find this kit very helpful, and I will store it at somewhere accessible.”
Cheang Yat Hong, owner of Luen Heng Grocery expressed his gratitude, “Right after Typhoon Hato back in 2017, MGM offered cloud data backup service to us, and they have been keeping us in touch during the typhoon season to ensure our safety. I am truly thankful to all these caring acts, especially for the latest hand-delivered emergency kit.”
