MGM considers the health and safety of employees its utmost priority. For the 4th consecutive year in keeping with its commitment to taking care of team members’ wellbeing, the Company launched the MGM Health and Safety Month in October with a series of exciting and thoughtful activities to raise employees’ awareness of health and safety and help them develop an effective training regimen. MGM hoped that the campaign could inspire team members to enjoy doing exercise every day and make it a habit, which helps to develop a positive and healthy lifestyle. This will enhance team members’ physical condition and improve their concentration at work so that the Company can make a collaborative effort with employees to create a healthier and safer workplace.
The kickoff ceremony of MGM Health and Safety Month 2019 was attended by honorable guests including Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of Labour Affairs Bureau; Ms. Lam Iok Cheong, Chief of Occupational Safety & Health Department of Labour Affairs Bureau; Mr. Felix Wong, Chief of Inspection of Pari-Mutuels Department of Gaming Inspection & Coordination Bureau; Mr. Chan Kam Meng, President of Macao Federation of Trade Unions; Ms. Maria de Fatima Salvador dos Santos Ferreira, President of the General Assembly of Fuhong Society of Macau; Mr. Hubert Wang, President, Hospitality & Chief Financial Officer of MGM China Holdings; Ms. Wendy Yu, Senior Vice President of Human Resources; Mr. Mike Holubowskyj, Senior Vice President of Security & Safety, Ms. Michelle Chiu, Vice President of Human Resources; and Mr. Winston Yeung, Executive Director of Risk & Safety of MGM.
Coming up with the slogan “Wellness for Life, Work Safety in Mind”, the fun-filled MGM Health and Safety Month presented 8 Golden Lion Health Actions and homemade workout videos starring Health Ambassador Leo Sincere. The month-long campaign commenced with Different Draw • Different We Are, a circle painting workshop organized by Fuhong Society of Macau and sponsored by MGM. 200 volunteers from MGM, Fuhong Society of Macau, a secondary school, local universities and social service associations joined hands to create a special artwork. They initially came up with individual paintings of circles, which were then connected to become a large art piece as a way to promote social inclusion and raise public awareness of mental health.
Other highlights of Golden Lion Health Actions included Health Check Point, with professional medical practitioners providing BMI, body fat and glucose checkup for team members. Qigong Ba Duan Jin Experience taught participants the very gentle and effective movement sequence of Chinese Qigong, which would help participants improve their physical condition. Team members wanting to enjoy pleasurable moments with family members signed up for Fun Cycling and Family Hiking. Health Fun Day featured a series of mini-games for team members to estimate their motor skills. Also shouldn’t miss out were Health Series Flash Talk hosted by Chinese medicine practitioners and nutritionists; Work and Health Seminar with professionals from Macau Labour Affairs Bureau coming in to explain the impact of work on health; and Functional Improvement Exercise Class – Upper Limb led by a physiotherapist.
As in years past, MGM specially produced safety and health videos for employees to acquire the skills of staying fit. This year, Leo Sincere taught team members stretching exercises to prevent muscle strain caused by maintaining certain postures for long period.
MGM signed the Occupational Safety and Health Charter in 2017 as a testament to its commitment to securing a safe and healthy workplace for all team members. The Company also promotes a wholesome lifestyle by motivating employees to take part in different sporting events, including sponsoring staff members to field a team of 4 to take on the challenge of MGM Macau Eco TrailHiker. Employees are also encouraged to join Golden Lion Sports Teams to enhance their physical health and team spirit.
