MGM has reached another new milestone in its sustainability journey! With a series of implementations in reducing its environmental impact, MGM COTAI has recently obtained the ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System Certification, which truly recognizes the Company’s great endeavors in achieving environmental sustainability and its commitment to adopting international standards.
Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “This significant achievement is definitely a culmination of our team work, communication and fierce desire to better our environment. MGM has been constantly embedding ecological implementations into all aspects of its daily operations, striving towards a more sustainable travel and tourism industry in the region. While the certification is going to help us measure and monitor our environmental sustainability performance, we owe it to ourselves to make our business greener every day.”
ISO 14001:2015 is a globally recognized standard that maps out a framework a company or organization can follow to set up an effective environmental management system, hence the enhancement of corporate environmental performance. The certification is gained through implementing policies, procedures and systems that follow and meet ISO standards.
With the sustainability vision of “Create a Better Tomorrow Today”, MGM’s green efforts are recognized regionally and internationally. Last year, MGM COTAI has been awarded the Three-Star certification under the China Green Building Design Label by the China Green Building and Energy Saving (Macau) Association, which was the first mega-size complex project in Macau to have achieved the Three-Star certification, the highest and most prestigious ranking in the Label. MGM is also the first integrated resort operator in Macau to step up its drive to eliminate single-use plastic in takeaway packaging. On the other hand, the Company installed advanced control and monitoring Building Management System to minimize energy wastage while providing the same comfort level, which resulted in reducing 5% of energy intensity between 2016 and 2018.
