Sweet Indulgence in Appreciation to the Angels in White “International Nurses Day 2020 Series Events” Launching Ceremony
The Women's General Association of Macau, the Nurses Association of Macau, MGM and the Association of Building a Good Home Together join hands in organizing the “Sweet Indulgence in Appreciation to the Angels in White” campaign.

International Nurses Day on May 12 is a day to advocate, inherit and celebrate the great nurse Florence Nightingale's humanitarian spirit, which embraces the virtue of courage, dedication and commitment in saving lives from death. The theme for this year’s International Nurses Day, “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Nursing the World to Health”, emphasizes the importance and contribution of nurses to the people around the globe, which demonstrates the significance of nurses when handling all sorts of health care crisis. Right in this global pandemic, nurses’ celebrated virtues of courage and devotion are conspicuous, where they are widely recognized by the society for abiding the front line of public health care and striving to save lives.

 

On this special occasion, the Women's General Association of Macau, the Nurses Association of Macau, MGM and the Association of Building a Good Home Together join hands in organizing the “Sweet Indulgence in Appreciation to the Angels in White” campaign to deliver appreciation to all of the nurses in Macau by distributing 3,000 heartwarming gifts to them, expressing the greatest gratitude for their hard work and steadfast dedication that protect our city from the pandemic.

 

While the anti-epidemic work is still on, the organizers hope to raise public awareness on the endeavors of our nurses, and at time same time sending them support to keep up their faith in combating the pandemic.

 

Right after the launching ceremony, the organizers started distributing gifts to the nurses thereupon, where representatives of each organizer sent their warm greetings to the nurses who attended the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Lam Un Mui, Director General of the Women's General Association of Macau; Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM; Che Sio Ieng, Director of the Nurses Association of Macau; Cheong Wan, President of the Nurses Association of Macau; Irene Wong, Vice President of Public and Community Relations of MGM; Catarina Lio, Vice President of Brand Marketing of MGM; Michelle Chiu, Vice President of Human Resources of MGM; Iong Weng Ian and Wong Kit Cheng, the Director and the President of the Association of Building a Good Home Together.

 

All nurse ID or permit holders are entitled to collect a face mask case, and a cake voucher or a gift sponsored by MGM at the Women's General Association of Macau Service Center at Rua da Barca No.27A-27B from May 11 to 30. Every voucher may redeem four pieces of cake at the Pastry Bar at MGM MACAU from now until July.

 

To express the most sincere gratitude for the selfless devotion of the nurses and medical workers, there will be a light display on the exterior walls of MGM COTAI between 6:30pm and 12:30am on both May 11 and 12, delivering the message of how the medical workers have brought the light of hope to the citizens. On May 12 at 1pm, MGM is especially inviting a string quartet from the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra Association to perform the first movement of String Quartet No.1 in E minor, “From My Life” by the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana at the Spectacle of MGM COTAI. The performance will be livestreamed on the Facebook and Instagram pages of MGM, where healthcare workers who are on duty may watch online together.

After co-organizing the campaign of “Children Mask Distribution Scheme” whereby 100,000 children masks were distributed to local students, we hope to show our heartfelt appreciation for the devotion of our local nurses and medical workers who safeguard the lives and safety of all Macau citizens.”
