MGM Holds Macau Assistive Technology Resources Center Experience Day
Gives Full Introduction to Assistive Devices for MGM Employees and Community Partners
“MGM X Macau Assistive Technology Resources Center Experience Day” enabled participants to realize the center’s service and acquire information about assistive devices.

As the sponsor of Macau Assistive Technology Resources Center set up last year by the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM), MGM goes all out to promote social inclusion. Earlier this year, the Company partnered with the center to launch training programs on the proper use of assistive devices. Recently it took a step further and organized “MGM X Macau Assistive Technology Resources Center Experience Day” for team members, their family and its community partners to realize their service and acquire practical information. The event was meant to enhance the public’s understanding of assistive resources, which will help more elderly and people with disabilities raise their living standard and alleviate the stress of caregivers.

Macau Assistive Technology Resources Center, the first of its kind in the city, features a display of barrier-free home, assistive devices on loan and tryout service, promotional and educational materials, and consultation and assessment service. This one-stop service helps strengthen the self-care ability of the elderly and the disabled, and practically reduces psychological burdens of caregivers. The “MGM X Macau Assistive Technology Resources Center Experience Day” invited team members and their family, social service organizations, service users and their family to visit the center, with professionals and MGM volunteers coming in to explain its service and the application of assistive devices. Moreover, free wheelchair cleaning and disinfection service was provided as part of MGM’s effort to highlight the importance of this hygienic practice. Participating organizations included Centro de Dia da Ilha Verde of Caritas Macau, Centro Lustroso of Caritas Macau, Macau Caritas Lar Sao Luis Gonzaga, Fuhong Society of Macau, Tung Sin Tong Elderly Activity Centre, and Macau Association of Support for the Disabled.

Starting from early this year, MGM teamed up with the center to launch the “Practical Skills in Using Assistive Devices” training program for MGM volunteers to learn the proper use of assistive tools and the procedures of wheelchair cleaning and disinfection in their spare time. On the experience day, Io Hong Meng, President of the Supervisory Committee of UGAMM, presented a certificate to the volunteers as a token of appreciation. Ho Kuok Meng, Director-General of Macau Association of Support for the Disabled, said: “We thank MGM for organizing this event, which is a great opportunity for us to realize different assistive tools and help people with special needs to enhance their life.”

To offer more innovative social resources to the Macau community, MGM funded UGAMM to set up the city’s first assistive technology resources center. The initiative ties in with the concepts of “ageing in place” and helping the disabled to purchase assistive devices as stated in the 10-year Plan for Rehabilitation Services of the Macao SAR. MGM also sponsored people in need to use wheelchair cleaning and disinfection service, sparing them from the high cost of this service and safeguarding their health.
