MGM Assists Local Youth to Navigate Future Career
Internships Programs to Enhance Competitiveness of Secondary and University Students
MGM lent full support to “Fresh Graduate Internship Program” launched by DSAL, arranging 22 graduates serving a 3-month internship to learn at 9 departments of its properties.

With a strong commitment to nurturing local talent, MGM strives to provide various opportunities for Macau locals to pursue their career goals. Since its opening in 2007, the Company has joined forces with government departments and local institutions to introduce internship programs for fresh university graduates as well as university and secondary students. Apart from exploring the participants’ potential and interest during internship at a large-scale integrated resort, the program aims to boost their virtues and capabilities under the guidance of MGM team members as well as provide them with a broader perspective for career planning.

Preparing Graduates for a Bright Future

MGM lent its full support to “Fresh Graduate Internship Program”, an initiative of the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) to enhance fresh university graduates’ competitiveness in the job market amid the pandemic. To tie in with this initiative, the Company launched the 3-month “MGM Local Graduate Career Experience Program” for 22 graduates referred by DSAL to receive training at its properties from August. They are currently serving internships at 9 departments, including Food & Beverage, Rooms, Kitchen, Spa, Mlife, and Information Technology. In addition to obtaining a deeper understanding of the hotel industry, they also learned practical skills of communication and time management.

The interns also had the opportunity of meeting Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM. She advised the interns to seize every opportunity to equip themselves and make the most out of this 3-month program that will undoubtedly benefit their future career development. She hoped they would do their utmost to acquire more skills and knowledge about the hotel industry, which presents both challenges and opportunities for graduates to grow continuously.

Internship Opportunities in GBA for University Students

Moreover, MGM supported “A Bright Future – 2020 Internship Program for Macao Higher Education Students” – an initiative hosted by Higher Education Bureau and co-organized by Associação de Jovens Empresários Chineses de Macau and Comissão de Juventude de Associação Comercial de Macau. This program enabled participants, who were at least in the second year of university, to serve internships at companies in Macau, Guangdong or Jiangsu during summer holidays. MGM arranged two of the students to learn at its Zhuhai Brief Shared Services Center for a 4-week internship. It was believed that the experience would broaden their horizons and enable them to grasp GBA opportunities.

Meanwhile, MGM is also the only large-scale integrated resort operator to support “Summer Internship Program”, an annual event launched by Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, for six consecutive years. To date, the Company has nurtured over 60 university students with the support of its Rooms, Food & Beverage, Transportation, Facility Management and Information Technology departments. This year, 4 university students gained an opportunity to experience the daily operations at Facility Management and Information Technology, where they learned the importance of team spirit from MGM team members.

Secondary Students Taking in Hotel Operations

MGM continues to advocate early career planning. Supported by Escola Luso-Chinesa Técnico-Profissional and Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, the Company has held “MGM High School Internship Program” for 8 consecutive years which attracted a total of over 80 participants. This year, participating students majoring in electronics were trained at MGM’s Facility Management team, to learn the operations and maintenance of hotel facilities. Students of design programs served internships at Housekeeping team, where they learned how to use a 3D scanner to take accurate body measurements for making customized uniforms for team members.
