MGM Held “Sharing Session on National People's Congress and National Political Consultative Conference”
NPC & CPPCC Members Introducing National Strategies to 300 Team Members
Guests of honor officiated the opening of the “Sharing Session on National People's Congress and National Political Consultative Conference”

The fourth session of the 13th National People’s Conference (NPC) and the fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), commonly known as “two sessions”, concluded successfully at the beginning of March. To help team members keep abreast of our nation’s development, MGM recently held the “Sharing Session on National People's Congress and National Political Consultative Conference” at MGM COTAI as part of its National Education Series. The Company was pleased to have the presence of Chui Sai Peng, member of NPC, deputy delegation leader of Macau’s NPC delegation and spokesperson, and member of the 6th Legislative Assembly of Macau; Ho Sut Heng, member of NPC and President of Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM); Ho Teng Iat, Deputy Director of the Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese under the National Committee of CPPCC, Member of the Standing Committee of the All-China Women's Federation and President of The Women's General Association of Macau; and Chan Chi Fong, Vice President of Macau Development Strategy Research Centre. They highlighted the major policies set out at the “two sessions” and how the Government Work Report will impact on Macau’s economy and people’s livelihood, inculcating 300 MGM team members with the spirt of “two sessions”.

The guests of honor of the sharing session included Zuo Xianghua, Deputy Director General of Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR; Pansy Ho, Co-chairperson & Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited; Kenneth Feng, President, Chief Strategic & Financial Officer of MGM; Hubert Wang, President & Chief Operating Officer of MGM; and Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM.

Pansy Ho, Co-chairperson & Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “MGM is honored to have NPC and CPPCC members to explain our nation’s latest developments and pass on the spirit of ‘two sessions’ to our team members for two consecutive years. Our nation has embarked on a new journey to reach the second centenary goal, which coincides with the momentous post-pandemic economic recovery. MGM will join hands with team members to align with the nation’s development directions, and we pledge to contribute by making the best of our resources. We will continue helping Macau to strengthen its positions as World Center of Tourism and Leisure and proactively contribute to the integration of GBA cities.”

The guest speakers introduced the highlights of the “two sessions”, one after another. They indicated that the 14th Five-Year Plan gives pointers on Macau’s future development. According to Chui Sai Peng, the “two sessions” brought out new concepts for advancing Macau, including the “one base”, the research, development and manufacture of Chinese medicine, the provision of distinctive financial services, and the opening up of high-tech industries. He suggested that Macau should proactively explore its development paths and grasp every opportunity. It is also essential for Macau to support the nation’s policies and stay innovative. Ho Sut Heng said that as the nation has basically reached the goal of building a moderately prosperous society, more emphasis will be put on high-quality development in the future. Macau should therefore enhance its competitiveness in different aspects and strive for economic diversification. Ho Teng Iat pointed out that 2021 marks a transition of China’s development as the nation had attained its first centenary goal and geared up strategically to achieve socialist modernization by 2035.

During the discussion session, the three guests put forward suggestions and advised MGM team members to equip themselves for new opportunities brought by the nation. Ho Teng Iat spoke of NPC’s decision to improve the electoral system of the Hong Kong SAR – a move to help further implement the principle of “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong” with patriots as the main body, which is conducive to the long-term development of Hong Kong. Ho Teng Iat indicated that the kernel of this principle also applies to Macau. It is critical for Macau to place importance on patriotic education targeted at the young generation, which should be delivered primarily at school. In every sense, the society should work together to boost patriotism across the city.

Moreover, Ho Teng Iat went into the growing importance of women. She encouraged the women in Macau to seize the opportunities presented by the 14th Five-Year Plan and demonstrate their distinctive capacity in both family and society. They should also align themselves to the nation’s strategic objectives, including to build a strong bond among family members and quest for good family education and values. Such endeavors would allow every family to be a pillar of a harmonious society. Ho Teng Iat purposely related her advice to the remarks of President Xi Jinping, who recently urged women to be a builder of great causes, an advocate of civilization and a go-getter who dares to realize her dreams. She encourages women in Macau to contribute their power towards local and national development.

Ho Sut Heng indicated that the 14th Five-Year Plan put emphasis on people’s livelihood, steering the ways to enhance the life of Chinese nationals and Macau residents. Speaking of China’s goal of achieving high-quality development, Ho Sut Heng specifically referred to the nation’s focus on “craftsmanship” which encourages workers to demonstrate professionalism and practice strong work ethics with a new mindset in a new era. She also highlighted the importance of inculcating the virtue of showing respect and admiration for labor into the next generation. In her opinion, a recent cross-sector collaboration between MGM and FAOM, which aims to nurture and inherit the spirit of craftsmanship, has set a good example in this respect.

Chui Sai Peng mentioned that Macau has a large number of world-class hotels offering comprehensive convention and exhibition facilities. The city should take advantage of its positioning as a platform for convention and exhibition, where products featuring innovative technologies can be unveiled to the nation and the world. At the same time, he also urged team members to recognize the importance of history and patriotic traditions in the course of innovation. He then concluded his sharing by encouraging team members to keep an open mind for exploring new opportunities, as every inch of soil in the country is a good ground for cultivating innovation and entrepreneurship. Macau shall ride on its strengths to fulfill the needs of the nation.
