MGM has carried on its philanthropic tradition to send Chinese New Year (CNY) wishes to the elderly for the 12th year in a row. As usual, the Golden Lion Volunteer Team organized a series of festivities prior to CNY, including spring clean at several elderly centers, Fai Chun writings by local students, free haircuts, etc., to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with the elderly amidst great joy and warmth.
The Golden Lion Volunteer Team – led by Wendy Yu, Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM – earlier visited five elderly centers in Macao, including the Mong Ha Elderly Center of Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), the Day Centre “Prazer para Idosos” of the Women’s General Association of Macau, Centro de Servicos Completos para Idosos Cheng I of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao (UGAMM), Centro de Dia Brilho da Vida of Caritas Macau and the Tung Sin Tong Elderly Activity Centre. During the visits, MGM volunteers presented fun-packed activities, such as lion dance performances, singing shows and mini-games to over 350 seniors. The Company also gave away gift bags packed by the Fuhong Society of Macau, which contains Tung Sin Tong Pharmacy’s soup packets, noodles, oatmeal, MGM’s Fai Chun, a dementia information booklet, an auxiliary bottle opener, etc. Besides, MGM has collaborated with a local SME cleaning company to carry out spring clean at these five elderly centers for the third consecutive year, to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new spring.
With an aim to foster intergenerational relationships and encourage youngsters to give back to society, MGM once again invited high school students of Escola Tong Sin Tong to write over 100 pieces of Fai Chun, sending their best wishes of good luck and prosperity to the elderly. The Company also invited Chinese medicine practitioners of the Macau Chinese Medicine Association to share health information with the seniors.
Established in 2015, the MGM haircut volunteer team provides complimentary haircuts for the elderly every month. This January, the Company organized haircut sessions at four elderly care centers, including Mong Ha Elderly Center of FAOM, Centro de Dia Brilho da Vida of Caritas Macau, the Day Centre “Prazer para Idosos” of the Women’s General Association of Macau and Tung Sin Tong Elderly Activity Centre. The event benefitted over 150 seniors, enabling them to welcome the Year of the Rabbit with a refreshed look.
