[Macau – October 7, 2015] MGM China is dedicated to supporting local Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and cultivating sustainable partnerships with the community. At today’s “Local SME Procurement Collaboration Press Conference” co-hosted with Macao Chamber of Commerce (MCC) and supported by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), the Company announced two major SME initiatives: The first ‘MGM SME Business Matching Session’ to be held on November 30 at MGM MACAU and plans to establish an MGM SME Committee.
MGM China has consistently invested in the development of local SMEs since its opening 2007, nurturing and working with local emerging businesses to uphold its vision of “Creating a Better Macau Today.” In fact, in 2014 over 80% of MGM China’s purchases went to local Macau businesses. In an effort to expand this initiative as MGM’s procurement needs are increasing ahead of the MGM COTAI opening in 2016, the company has collaborated with MCC to focus on key local SME segments: Micro SMEs with 15 or less employees in Macau, Young Entrepreneurs under the age of 45, and those that are Made in Macau.
Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited said: “Local SMEs are important to the Macau economy and MGM China has been developing business relationships with Macau SMEs since 2007. To achieve further success it is crucial for us to all work together and with the support of the Macau government and the Macao Chamber of Commerce, MGM is focused on expanding its SME program. Macau’s success will be made by the people of Macau.”
On October 7th, a press conference was held at the Macao Chamber of Commerce Building. Representatives attending the conference include Mr. Kou Hoi In, President of Board of Directors; Mr. Chui Yuk Lam and Mr. U Kin Cho, both Vice-President of Board of Directors from MCC; Mr. Agostinho Vong, Senior Manager of Investor Service Department of IPIM; Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director; Mr. Hubert Wang, Chief Financial Officer; Mr. Gary Chung, Vice President of Supply Chain Services; Mr. Simon Leong, Director of Purchasing from MGM China.
The Company announced that it will host the first “MGM SME Business Matching Session” on November 30 at MGM MACAU. At this event the Company will provide business owners with at least 10 minutes per matching session to allow them to introduce their products and services. The company also indicated that at this event it will provide a list of items it will make available for purchasing from local companies. As this is a long term initiative for the Company, going forward MGM China will host quarterly industry-specific matching events to develop sector specific relationships and focus on near-term opportunities. MGM China also announced plans to establish an MGM SME Committee composed of prominent local
business leaders and MGM China executives to collaborate on initiatives aimed at improving and broadening MGM’s relationships with local SMEs leading to increased sourcing and purchases.
Macao Chamber of Commerce President Mr. Kou Hoi In said: ”MGM China has been socially responsible thanks to their diversified business and they have added Micro SMEs, Made in Macau and Young Entrepreneurs into their SME program, which extends the opportunities offered to local small and micro enterprises. This is beneficial to Macau’s economic diversification and nurtures local micro enterprises and young people who are willing to create business. ”
