In alignment with the National policy of rural revitalization, MGM has donated HKD 3 million to restore seven historical buildings within Shankou town in Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province. The donation supports the initiative, coordinated by the Macao SAR Government and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, to assist in the revitalization of Jiangxi. Through the subsidy, MGM aims to reinvigorate Shankou town into a tourist destination characterized by rich histories, cultures, and nationalism, giving additional impetus to its economic and cultural sustainable development.
Pansy Ho, Chairperson & Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said, “As a corporation rooted in Macau, MGM is devoted to supporting the nation’s development. MGM takes pride in being at the forefront of cultural tourism in Macau. This time, we draw on our industry strength, helping the local government transform Shankou’s red tourism resources and traditional culture into an appealing tourist destination. By lending our practical support, we strive to deepen the cooperation in cultural tourism between Jiangxi Province and Macau.”
Earlier in March, MGM and the Xiushui County People’s Government signed an agreement to formalize the restoration project – It focuses on refurbishing Shankou's architectural heritage, with notable sites like the Hongwei Market, Shankou Chamber of Commerce, Xiechang Grocery Store, Hexingfu Trading Company, Shankou Restaurant, Shankou Purchase Department, and Benlisheng Traditional Chinese Medicine Shop. The donation will be used for interior redesigns, restoration materials, and exterior renovations. The project is expected to further uplift the historical and cultural allure of Shankou, which was already recognized as a “Historical and Cultural Town of Jiangxi Province” in 2021 and designated as one of the seventh batch of China’s Historical and Cultural Towns in 2019.
The signing ceremony was held in Xiushui County. It was attended by distinguished guests, including Cheong Chok Man, Director of the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; Huang Shengbiao, Deputy Head of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Gong Jianhui, Party Secretary and Executive Vice President of the Jiangxi Province Red Cross; Qiu Qimin, Deputy Director of the Jiangxi Province Development and Reform Commission; Bao Chenggeng, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Jiujiang Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Jiujiang Municipal People’s Government; and Zheng Qinghua, Secretary of the CPC Xiushui County Committee.
