Edgar Degas: Figures in Motion

The Edgar Degas: Figures in Motion is part of MGM’s endeavors in bringing world class art and cultural experiences for the local community’s enjoyment, while promoting Macau’s status as an international city where globally influential artworks are created, appreciated and treasured. Degas is known as one of the founders of Impressionism and is famous for his painting and sculpting horses, dancers and bathing women. To pair with his most timeless art pieces, MGM Art Space especially divided the venue into different colors and themes, which are respectively, a grass green area with a horseshoe-shaped stand, a pink ballet room, and a blue water-drop-shaped display. Interactive elements, such as a zoetrope (an animation device that produces the illusion of motion through a sequence of still pictures of a horse and jockey), videos, Parisian street views, photo booths with horse-riding and ballet-dancing props for fun pictures, as well as guided tours, are added to walk everyone through the stories of Degas, and the Paris he knew.

From now till end of November, local residents and tourists will have the opportunity to discover a different side of Degas behind the paint brush and camera.

At the Degas exhibition we have implemented interactive photo booths and will be running social media campaigns with games and prizes via our Facebook, WeChat and Weibo pages to make art fun and enjoyable to all. MGM will continue to make great moments happen that bring artistry and entertainment to life, and support Macau to become a world center of leisure and tourism with diversified offerings.
