The ceremony was then followed by up-beat and exciting Junior Lion Dance performances presented by the students of Junior Lion Dance Continuous Training Program as well as current graduates respectively and concluded with the certificate presentation session.

Mr. Grant Bowie said at the event, “Youth is the future of our community. At MGM, we have consistently promoted this significant piece of heritage, making it more accessible to audience of all ages. Through this program, we hope that we can help to develop a sense of pride, participation and achievement in the younger generation. This is another innovative way that MGM contributes to the development of the community of Macau.”

Mr. Chow Chi Man also congratulated the graduates and said, “For the third consecutive year, the MGM Junior Lion Dance Program has received positive feedback from the community as this is an important platform to nurture the next generation of lion dancers. We hope that in future, they can form teams, join competitions, and support the sports scene of Macau.”

One of the parents, Ms. Cheong, also expressed her joy, “My daughter has become more independent and disciplined since the program and I’ve also noticed significant progress on her interpersonal skills.  I am touched by her enthusiasm in Lion Dance and that makes me so proud of her.”

To date, nearly 200 local children have joined the Junior Lion Dance Program since its launch in 2015. The Program is designed for different levels, from foundational choreography training to formal lion dancing course. It provides the participants an in-depth understanding about the art of traditional lion dancing and the opportunities to perform in public community events.
