MGM and Macao Chamber of Commerce Co-organize Food Safety Seminar for Local SMEs
Enhancing Macau’s Food Safety Management and SME Competitiveness

[September 6, 2018, Macau] MGM organized the “MGM SME Supporting Program – Food Safety and ISO Management System Seminar” today, in collaboration with the Macao Chamber of Commerce (MCC) and supported by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), Economic Bureau, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), as well as the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM). The event attracted more than 200 participants, including SMEs, Food & Beverage (F&B) vendors and industry practitioners, young entrepreneurs, government representatives and members from various SME associations.
Both MGM and MCC understand the importance of helping local SMEs and enhancing their competitiveness to an international level, as it is vital to diversify the Macau economy. This seminar helps local SMEs better understand the food safety knowledge and the ISO management system standards, in order to facilitate the growth of both the SMEs and the industry. Guests of Honor in attendance were Mr. Chui Yuk Lum, Vice President of MCC; Mr. Anthony Leong, Deputy Director of Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau; Mr. Vong Vai Lon, Member of Executive Committee of IPIM; Mr. Cheong Kuai Tat, Head of Food Safety Centre of IACM; Mr. Yau Yun Wah, Head of Economic Activities Development Department of DSE; Dr. Shuen Ka Hung, Director-General of CPTTM; Ms. Helena Lei, Senior Manager of Standards, Management, Training & Assessment Development of CPTTM; and Mr. Gary Chung, Vice President of Supply Chain Services of MGM.
At the event, Mr. Cheong Kuai Tat shared on Macau’s food safety regulations and cases of F&B manufacturing sites with foodborne disease, which helped the participants understand the various food safety standards and hygiene requirements. He also provided constructive feedback for the improvement in Macau’s F&B industry, and encouraged the industry to implement food safety management in a more standardized and safer way. Meanwhile, Ms. Helena Lei gave a detailed introduction on the ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System, implementation and certification process of ISO, as well as a series of supporting programs offered by the CPTTM.
Mr. Chui Yuk Lum acknowledged the success of the event, “As a ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’, Macau is committed to developing into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. Macau’s tourism boom has led to a thriving F&B scene. This seminar can promote the overall food safety standards in Macau, bringing about new business opportunities for the SMEs and facilitating Macau as an international tourism destination with safe and high quality gourmets.”
